How many people actually want to play College sports?

In smaller colleges Juco and the like few people outside the town can name the college athletes. Division 1 a good chunk of people know who they are. Though for soccer, lacrosse, hockey track and field even d1 few people know them.

For the glory an autumn Saturday afternoon and two or three nights during the winter there is a lot of commitment involved. You have little social life in college. Class study and the sports. You may get your educTion paid for but. That is a lot of commitment.

I know some people that are sending there kids to school 25 miles away and passing another school on the way because they feel that is the best chance to get seen by college recruiters. As freshman don,t have to sit out via transfer rules. If you transfer mid HS without parents moving have to sit out a year or give state good bs story. Can get hardship clause did not go to school to play ball.

I have seen parents buy homes were they thought for better coaches. But how many people play college ball after High School. How many want too? Some leave after one year. I would laugh if those people spend all that on gas in hopes of being seen don,t wind up playing college ball. If you are good enough I don,t think school matters.

Those skillful enough to play pro ball it does take a lot of time and travel. Not just in front of the fans. However you get the off season off do a lot of works then, And you don,t have college classes to commit too.

I had a couple roommates at BYU on sports teams. They seemed to vacillate regularly on the question of whether it was worth it. Of course opportunity costs vary by individual and school. I suppose that at somewhere expensive like Stanford it might be more worthwhile. If you thought you could swing an academic scholarship with time gained by not playing a sport, that might be the way to go. Sports can open some doors but can close others as well. All very hypothetical for me.

When I moved to NYC I was shocked at what our junior engineers straight out of school are being paid. I just hired a guy who has about 4 years experience and is about to get his PE and he is making less in Manhattan than I made when moved to Omaha at a similar point in my career. The last 8 years have been brutal to most professions.

I want my grandkids to play college sports if they get scholarships. Anything they can do so I won't have to cough up some money to help out.

Like some people on here who are misinformed, the grandkids think I have a lot of money, when I really don't. They think just because I own 3 houses and play golf everyday I am rich. They just don't understand what real money is.
