hatfield is really stupid
Hatfield is alleged to have placed an ad online to sell his XBox for the purpose of robbing the buyer. One man responded to the ad and set up a meeting with Hatfield -- who was using the alias David Wilkins in the ad -- at a car wash in Salt Lake City. When the man showed up to meet Hatfield and purchase the XBox from him, Hatfield allegedly "produced a knife and demanded the victim's money. The victim complied and gave the suspect cash. The suspect then fled on foot."
The perfect crime, right? Surely there was no way the victim would ever discover who the man who robbed him was, as he used a different name in the online ad.
Well, the victim went home and had his wife call Hatfield as another interested buyer for the XBox. A meeting was then set up at the same car wash that the alleged robbery took place, except this time when Hatfield showed up, instead of meeting the victim's wife, he was met by local police and "taken into custody without incident."
