He threw for 3,060 yards, completed 56% of his passes and threw 19 tds and 7 ints. How could he not win the Heisman?Originally posted by New Mexican Disaster View PostWhy the heisman still gets any publicity is beyond me. Gino Torretta won it. Gino Torretta!
That is a 132 PER.
He is a Bay Area kid and when my little league team was making its run in the state tournament, we played Pinole and he was there.*Banned*

Sure those numbers seem pedestrian, even bad, but those Miami teams really lacked talent around the QB, especially at the skill positions.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostHe threw for 3,060 yards, completed 56% of his passes and threw 19 tds and 7 ints. How could he not win the Heisman?

Huh? In his two starting years Miami shared a national championship and the next year lost to Alabama in the de facto championship game. There were like 10-20 hurricanes drafted into the NFL those two seasons.Originally posted by smokymountainrain View PostSure those numbers seem pedestrian, even bad, but those Miami teams really lacked talent around the QB, especially at the skill positions.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

Quite ripping on Torreta, who else were the voters supposed to go for? Marshall Faulk? Garrison Hearst?Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”
