The Wisconsin game is the biggest difference and the win over LSU. Granted Bama lost to Ole Miss and Florida blew them out.

But Florida has been in a tom of close games including squeaking by Florida Atlantic in OT on Saturday. No style points.

I just think Bama is getting the benefit of being Alabama, which in theory was ending with the playoff committee. That said, I'm not sure there is much difference between 1 and 10 in the rankings, this year is a good argument to expand to 8 teams.

I think that and they are a one loss team playing their best football right now and their one loss came all the way in September. Sorta like Ohio State last year. I'm not agreeing that an early season loss, followed by a winning streak should matter, but it seems like it does.

Of course they are. Definite bias for Bama.

I could see serious talk about expanding, but they would likely push the Big 12 into expanding adding a CCG to get an automatic qualifier.

Last year was similar. Baylor and TCU should have been included.

Who's to say that Michigan State and Oklahoma shouldn't be going ahead of Alabama and Notre Dame? For that matter, how about Ohio State and Michigan State (or Oklahoma and Baylor) both going ahead of Alabama and Notre Dame?
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

I don't know how you can put Oklahoma over Notre Dame if they have equal records, considering that Oklahoma's only loss is Texas and Notre Dame beat Texas.

                  • Alabama and Florida will cancel one or the other out. But I wouldn't mind seeing Florida lose to Florida State and then seeing Florida beat Alabama so that the SEC was kept out altogether. That said, I simply don't see Florida beating Alabama.

The Big 10 will likely do something similar -- Michigan State and the winner gets a playoff spot. Although if Iowa wins, I can see Ohio State still sneaking in with a certain things happen (Notre Dame loses to Stanford and Ohio State sneaks in past Oklahoma and Baylor depending on the capriciousness of the committee).

                    If Notre Dame beats Stanford:

                    1. Clemson 2. Alabama 3. Notre Dame 4. Michigan State/Iowa (Iowa is #3 if it wins Big 10 Championship)

If Notre Dame loses to Stanford and Oklahoma beats Oklahoma State:

                    1. Clemson. 2. Alabama 3. Oklahoma 4. Michigan State/Iowa (Iowa is #3 if it wins Big 10 Championship)

If Notre Dame loses to Stanford and Oklahoma State beats Oklahoma:

                    1. Clemson 2. Alabama 3. Michigan State/Iowa 4. Baylor -- with a slight chance that Ohio State sneaks in again if the committee still hates Baylor's nonconference schedule, as long a Ohio State beats Michigan.

Then there's the question of which teams really are the best, and I don't see how you put in Notre Dame ahead of Oklahoma if they both win this Saturday. Oklahoma will have beaten Baylor, TCU and Oklahoma State in three consecutive weeks to finish off the year.

Because Notre Dame will have not beaten three teams in the top 15 in the last three weeks to finish out the year. Texas and Oklahoma is a rivalry game, it was a fluke. Alabama lost to Ole Miss and looked pretty bad in the process.
