I'll say the same thing to you that I said to Ute fans that were wanting Whittingham fired to hire Frost, you are crazy for wanting an Oregon coach this early in the game.

I think Mark Helfrich is a good coach, but he started coaching during the tenure of one of the great spread QBs in the history of college football. I'll believe in him when he proves that he can still be successful without Mariota.

Coaches hired directly out of college fair better than coordinators or position coaches hired to their first NFL head coaching gig. There have been plenty of coaching hires made in the NFL of guys with lesser qualifications than Helfrich. John Harbaugh was a special teams coach before being hired as the Baltimore head coach. Then you have guys like Rod Marinelli who was a seasoned defensive coordinator.

Chizik already had a head coaching gig prior to Auburn, and he was terrible.

And if people want to point out Chizik, then I'll point out Pete Carroll, Chip Kelly, Jim Harbaugh, Jimmy Johnson, Bill Walsh, Don Coryell, etc. On the other side, you've got Steve Spurrier, Nick Saban (who might not have been bad had he stuck it out) and Bobby Petrino.

If someone wants to bring up Chizik, then I might as well also bring up Rod Marinelli when people discuss hiring successful coordinators. Marinelli, btw, did an admirable job with the Cowboys defense this year and would normally get head coach interviews if he hadn't already faceplanted in Detroit.
