You asked how people knew about the Rx stuff. The answer to that question is yes, you are missing information that others here have known for a couple of years. For some, max's drug issues and some details associated with them are not news. But you are correct that one cannot glean that solely from this weeks news article. He did have a problem with the Rx. So there you go.

I don't know if the general public is as attuned to this as we are, but prescription drug abuse is among our biggest public health threats right now. The US and Canada are by far the largest consumers (per capita and gross) of prescription narcotics in the world. It's not at all limited to athletes, but there probably isn't a college football out there who doesn't get at least a (legitimate) exposure to narcotics at some point in his career, putting them particularly at risk.
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

What can be done for these poor college footballs?
Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

Thanks. I am not surprised about the Rx stuff, nor am I disputing that it is true. He played multiple games with a separated shooter ... he had to have been on some pretty strong medication to get through that. Rx drug use, and addiction, is a serious issue among college athletes that should be discussed. I guess I am just a little bothered that Max's arrest was a catalyst in raising the issue among the local media. On BYUSN yesterday, they had an entire segment about prescription drug abuse with David Nixon on talking about how careful he was not to use more than were necessary. If, as you say, you cannot glean Max's Rx problem from his current trouble with the law, I'm not sure how that discussion is relevant or appropriate, especially when raised in the context of feeling sympathy for Max.

In contrast, I thought Tom Holmoe and Bronco Mendenhall's reactions were perfect. Express love, then offer support and encouragement.

No kidding. I wouldn't wish a separated shooter on even my worst enemy.

This thread has been really interesting. Most Ute fans wishing Max Hall well and hoping for his recovery. In response, several BYU fans are doubling down on his rant about the Utes. It is really sad how angry BYU fans are about the Utes leaving the MWC several years later. This dynamic did not exist before that happened.

I agree that would be sad.

Your threshold for what is a "double down" is very low.

The TV just showed a fan at the Utah/Frenso St game holding a sign with the following text: "Max Hall Stole my Other Sign".
