  • "Compliance is 6th" - The Official Busbygate Thread

Time for a dedicated thread. (Sorry vic, didn't like your thread title)

I will kick us off with this tweet:

    Kevin Graham ‏@KevinGrahamWEEI 1h
BYU may have given improper benefits to skill position players? That include Riley Nelson who was given the improper benefit of starting?

That line is from DDD, btw. I can't take credit for that.

Dude, it wasn't just boosters giving benefits. It was your right hand man on the administrative staff.

Lead story on KSL TV tonight. Feature went on for at least ten minutes. Somebody should link when it comes online. They interviewed Val Hale, Jeff Bennedict, and others.

Dammit. It was nice that BYU hadn't had a violation, and that may still be the case, but it's only a matter of when, not if, some dirt is dug up. Seriously, though, short of (further) crippling the program, how bad could sanctions really be? In the event it comes to NCAA sanctions I, for one, will really, really miss the podunk bowl games against MWC 8th seed... Besides, BYU could spin this in such a way that even if it was against NCAA regs, it's still compliant with the commandments, which is really what is the most important thing. Not that I agree, but whatever...
Don't worry about people stealing your ideas. If your ideas are any good, you'll have to ram them down people's throats.

Any sufficiently complicated platform contains an ad hoc, informally-specified, bug-ridden, slow implementation of half of a functional programming language.

I'm pretty sure they couldn't spin around the commandment of not lying.

I sure hope this thread is short-lived (nothing personal JL, just hoping for quick resolution is all).

I don't know. I'd wait and see what the investigation turns up. What did Bronco know and when did he know it? It's not clear what "improper benefits" the players received.

At least Bronco has the cover of a winning record.
                      Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Talo Steves of Totalbluesports.com is saying this is a nothing burger. Was already dealt with by BYU and NCAA. Press just got wind of it and now it's a story. We'll see...

Disappointing to say the least. If the rumors are true about the players having a house on the side this won't be pretty. BYU somehow needs to get out in front of this story.

They didn't have a house on the side. They lived in Busbys basement apartment for a heavily discounted rate or for free.

I'm worried about possible sanctions but I'm even more worried about current players potentially ineligible. Sure hope there is quick resolution with this.
