            Fine ignore the conference championship part. But the regular season would be severely devalued under a 16 team format. There are 3 or 4 teams in the top 16 right now with 3 losses. Many years there would be a 4 loss team. If you can win a championship with 3 or 4 losses how can we say the regular season matters?

                I don't remember the exact details...

                But they contractually can't expand the playoffs past four teams for a set number of years.

                    You described it perfectly. I lived it for a couple decades with Nebraska. When it was humming it was a blast but any time we got behind by a several scores it was agony.
