        Like Going to the Fair
        The Next Wisconsin Collapse

Camp Randall Stadium and its grounds had a rich history prior to its affiliation with Wisconsin athletics.

In the days before the Civil War, the site was owned by the Wisconsin Agricultural Society, which held its annual state fair on the grounds. When hostilities broke out in 1861, the society gave the land to the government for a major military training center. More than 70,000 troops attended training drills at the Camp Randall complex.

After peace was restored nationally, the land was returned to state fair property. The fair later moved to Milwaukee, and Wisconsin's Civil War veterans urged the legislature to purchase the land. In 1893, the state presented the site to the university as a memorial athletic field.

Intercollegiate athletics began on campus in 1881, and football joined the scene in 1889. The first games were played on the lower part of campus. The stadium was built at its present site in 1913. A tragic collapse of the wooden bleachers in 1915 prompted the UW to make plans for concrete stands.

Temporary bleachers were erected in the half finished stadium for the 1915 homecoming game against the Minnesota Golden Gophers. A reported 15,000 spectators were in attendance. A few seconds into the 2nd half a loud crack signaled the start of the collapse. Suddenly on the west end of the stadium three one-hundred foot bleachers collapsed along with 1,800 people. As sportswriter Ring Lardner’s eye witness account puts it “They was about 1,000 or maybe five thousand people in one of the cheering stands and all of a sudden it caved in somewhere and all the people was thrown on the ground. Some of ‘em was hurt pretty bad too.” Amazingly, only minor injuries were reported, and the game continued 15 minutes later. An investigation into the cause revealed that the recent rain had caused the ground into which the bleacher’s support stakes were planted to become unstable. As weight shifted back and forth the rear pegs released from the ground causing the structure to in effect tip over. The remaining $20,000 for the year old grant was then quickly allocated. This money and nearly $2,300 in donations greatly intensified the speed of construction for the new stadium, including solid concrete benches.

I agree. Look at all the suggestions in this thread already.

I vote that name-giving privileges be reserved for those boasting the highest win-loss percentage according to the results of said games. Thus, if candidate A has named four threads and BYU has won two of those games and candidate B has also named four threads, three of which involved BYU wins, then candidate B is to be granted naming priority. If anyone has an unblemished record naming threads, they shall be granted thread-naming privileges until they are usurped or exceeded in W-L percentage by another board member.

Indy can check the math, but I believe that no one to date has bettered the record of the oft-derided Harry Tic, which remains perfect.

you already screwed everything up so you should probably take the rest of the season and run with it. You are like the Travis Wilson of thread titles.

I tried to do that thing that highlights the hidden text, hoping to find lots of hidden smilies. No such luck. You run a tight ship.
