It is silly for all of you to be asking for Dodgers exemptions. Nobody has to explain being a fan of the Dodgers. It is pretty self-evident why all of us cheer for the Dodgers.

I didn't read any of the damn rules, because I don't care about them. I know who I like.
College:
BYU. There are no others. Starting at age 6, and every 6 years thereafter, BYU made a huge impression on my life. 6 years old during the 1984 season, and all the little kids in Vernal, Utah were huge Cougar fans. Age 12 was the Miami game and Detmer's Heisman season. Age 18 was 1996 with me living in Provo fresh out of high school, obviously a great year. 2002 was age 24 and we sucked.
I lived in rural Michigan for 2 years, ages 10 and 11. I liked the Wolverines a lot, and even watched Bo Schembechler's coaches show on Sundays. I still cheer for them, but I'm probably a class C fan at this point. I just like to give woot someone to talk to.
NBA
Jazz. I had an uncle who was a huge influence on me. He was a season ticket holder until he died of liver failure a few years ago.
NFL
I was a huge 49ers fan in a sea of New Mexican Cowboys fans growing up. For some reason, I fell off the wagon once TO and Jeff Garcia were the faces of the franchise. Now that they are good, I just can't really get back into them.
I like the Lions now, kind of because how bad they were. Now they have Ziggy and Megatron, so they're pretty fun to watch.
MLB
Huge Braves fan since my 1st t-ball team. Dale Murphy and TBS sealed that deal. The 1990s didn't hurt either. Still follow them very closely, they are my NL team.
My AL team is the Tigers. I spent two years in backwoods Michigan where the only TV station showed all the Tigers games live. This was in 1987, so they had a really good competitive team at the time. After recently living about 10 minutes from Comerica Park for 5 years, and going to about 10 games a year, I'm completely in the fold. Can't wait to kick the A's asses and rub mpfunk's nose in it this weekend!"Sure, I fought. I had to fight all my life just to survive. They were all against me. Tried every dirty trick to cut me down, but I beat the bastards and left them in the ditch."

Some of my ancestors loved more than one wife, and I like two baseball teams. I can live with that.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostUgh. Having an AL and NL team is the worst.

You adopted a "B-Team" during the 2004 season?Originally posted by mpfunk View PostOregon did not become my B-team 3 years ago. They became my B-Team during the 2004 season. Perhaps you will need to re-evaluate my petition for an exception with this crucial information.
If not, I am currently interviewing potential legal counsel for my formal petition.
I'll make a motion that your "A team" really isn't your "A-team" if you adopted ANY other school (much less one to which you have ZERO ties) during the 2004 season.

Well since there were lots of Ducks games on and that didn't conflict with Ute games, it was easy to gain an interest.Originally posted by Portland Ute View PostYou adopted a "B-Team" during the 2004 season?

Portland is a tie to the ducks.

Growing up in Idaho Falls with no sports fans in the family, and for some reason thinking that all college teams were created fairly equal, I kind of rooted for the Idaho State Bengals, but that was only via the newspapers, as we never went to any games, and they definitely weren't on tv. Then my oldest sister went to BYU, and we went to a game in about 1969 or '70 with Chris Farasopoulos and Pete Van Valkenburg. After that, I was a BYU fan all the way.
Funny thing about the pro sports fandom, though. I vaguely remember watching on our old black and white tv when a Los Angeles Rams player ran a kickoff back for a touchdown, and from that point I was a Rams fan. If that recollection is correct, and looking at pro-football-reference.com, it must have been Jon Arnett in 1961, when I was 2 years old. According to the website, the Rams didn't return another kickoff for a touchdown until 1968. So Roman Gabriel, Dick Bass, Merlin Olsen, and Deacon Jones were the stars that I looked for. Then the Rams went and moved to St. Louis and I stopped caring. My big brother liked the Packers, with Bart Starr, and I enjoyed reading Instant Replay by Jerry Kramer, so the Packers have had a bit of a soft spot, but have never been a top pick. I do like seeing BYU alums doing well, so naturally I rooted for Steve Young, Jim McMahon, and others to do well, regardless of team.
In basketball, I liked Jerry West, Wilt Chamberlain, and the Lakers, but can't stand Phil and Kobe, so I root for the Jazz. In baseball, I used to turn on an old vacuum tube radio as I was falling asleep, and hear Vin Scully call the Dodgers games when the atmospherics cooperated. So I was a fan of Ron Cey, Bill Russell, Steve Garvey, et al. Now I probably don't know any of the names of the players, except Puig, because he's in the headlines so much. I haven't watched a baseball game in decades.

There is no sufficient justification! If you cheer for a professional sports team (college is a bit more complicated) from another city when your city/region has a team, you are scum of the earth.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostDont jump to conclusions until you hear their reasons for becoming red sox fans!So Russell...what do you love about music? This is not one of the rules. I have shared this story before.Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostThere is no sufficient justification! If you cheer for a professional sports team (college is a bit more complicated) from another city when your city/region has a team, you are scum of the earth.
The year was 1986, I was 5 years old and in the first grade (I started school at 4 years old). I was on the playground at Mills Elementary school in Benicia, California. My best friend Nick Jordan (still my best friend to this day) and I were having our daily conversation about sports as we scoured the sports page and box scores of the Vallejo Times Herald. They had a feature on life long fans and long time season ticket holders in the bay area. Including a story on a Chicago Bears fan that had lived in the bay for 20 years but had never relinquished his season tickets.
That day Nick and I decided to pick our teams and never waver. Life-long sports fans seemed so cool.
Nick decided to go with all local teams and chose the Giants, 49ers, Warriors and Cal bears. He has been strong with the Giants and niners. For a short time in 1993 he started to waver from the Warriors and bought an Orlando magic starter pullover. But he is back.
Being Mormon I chose BYU even though I was rarely able to watch them. I was also a huge fan of Will Clark so naturally the Giants were my team. I have never wavered from those two however I admit after Will left SF, I followed him very closely as a byproduct I ended up following the Rangers. I was never a fan but I knew that team inside and out and always rooted for Will.
I also chose the Miami Dolphins for two reasons: Dan Marino and the orange and teal. I didn't want to be too much like Nick and my dad grew up in Minnesota and was a Vikings fan that hated the 49ers. I needed to go a different direction.
Over the summer my Aunt, Uncle and Cousin had moved in with is for a few months as they had a house built. They had moved from Texas and my cousin who was 8 years older and someone my 5 year old self idolized was a huge Spurs fan. I decided to follow his lead and chose the Spurs. It helped that the next year they drafted David Robinson.
26 years later I have been a fan of the exact same teams. My fandom runs deep as I live and die with all of them. I have broken things (quite a bit over the last 4 years thanks to Utah, Ray Allen and in the past you piece of shit Pete Stoyanovich) and shed tears both happy and sad (thank you 2time world champion Giants and 4 time champion Spurs).
My kids, my wife, my parents and my friends all know my loyalties and not a birthday or christmas goes by without them feeding my addiction and adding gear or memorabilia to my collection.
