Lane Kiffin's greatest hits

Watching this guy's magical tour unwind is going to pretty entertaining for everyone but 3D. Out of curiosity this AM went to his Wikipedia page and noticed that it's been purged of all references to his college experience - i.e. Fresno State grad who didn't play football.

Further down there are a few classic anecdotes:

Then I wandered to his bio page on the USC site and learned that:

This should be in the USC thread so it is part of the record in future seasons. Im fine with Kiffin's failure at this point. now that SanCtions are over, every misstep is one step closer to his firing.

After years of his hijinks, you are really late to be noting that he is moran just now.

From the limited talent pool available to a school that was about to submit to the worst sanctions since SMU, he was among the better alternatives.

I think there was some thought that he could prosper as SC because he understood the culture and the expectations. His offenses under Pete were effective, not sure how anyone could argue otherwise there. His willingness to come aboard at the start of the Death March really endeared him to the fanbase and faculty. And in fairness, when they finished that first sanction season with 10 wins and an otherwise probable invite to a BCS at-large, it looked like a good hire.

Kiff isn't a head coach and he certainly isn't one for the LA culture that permeates at SC (similar to the Lakers, the dodgers less so). He has done everything wrong over the past season or so, and Im not just talking about in game junk like deflated footballs or switching jerseys. He has eliminated any access to practices, he doesnt know how to handle the LA media, he can't manage the alumni and donor expectations because he lacks the dynamic personality of a PC or even RoboFat.

Haden was in bind but he couldnt fire him last season. Any shot at luring a top name is mitigated until the end of the sanctions. Now that sanctions are over, Kiffin is gone. Fare thee, well, Lane.

I've read anything from Gruden to Peterson to Jack Del Rio.

I have a feeling Charlie Weis will be available this offseason. Possibly even Norm Chow!

Im all in for Tony Dungy, that could work out well. And on behalf of all college football, it would be nice to venture into SEC territory and punch them in the groin by simply purchasing one of their top tier coaches.

Any of those names would be an upgrade... except for Chow. I'd love to see Chucky in LA at SC though. He's an offensive genius, and with the talent SC brings in, he would be dynamite IMO. Jack Del Rio coming home to SC would be a great hire too. And Dungy at the college level is a scary thought. He's one of those coaches that I hold in extremely high regard. He would be an absolute home run.

I have to think that Dungy would be awesome but acknowledge that it is a pipe dream right now.

As it stands, I am not even sure this current offense is going to get past Boston College this weekend. They will likely lose at home to The Farm. Even the game against Utah State is in doubt. Whatever coach comes in inherits Max Browne and a pretty decent defensive core. Marqise is gone after this season, no doubt.
