  • BYU DL this year

I was looking at the depth chart:

    http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/cougars...acker.html.csp

The DL depth is a bit scary. I think when the dust settles at the end of this year the health of the DL will be even more important than the health of the CBs. I think BYU will be better able to replace Jordan Johnson than they could Manu or Bronson Kaufusi. As I view what I know of the DL and potential contributors, I see BYU having 4 guys who I think can play today and do their jobs. Obviously, Manu and Kaufusi should be very good this year. I think Johnson and Peck will be reliable and adequate - especially if they are on the field with Manu and Kaufusi who are taking the lions share of the attention. After those 4 I think Utu and Peoples have potential. Especially JonRyheem whose name either typed or rolling off my lips makes my nipples hard as this Noble Son of the 208 just needs reps and experience to realize his immense potential. I think Utu could use a RS year to learn the DL position given his lack of football experience and lack of DL experience but that is obviously not an amenity this DL can offer. If folks stay healthy, starting with Manu and Kaufusi are absolutely mandatory to stay healthy, it will be good. I think next year it will be good and very deep - especially if JonRyheem "the nipple hardening Noble son of the 208" stays healthy and develops, and it is joined by Tuni Kanuch and the return of Rowley and Tuiloma.

But this year we are going all Chris Christie New Jersey as we are livin' on a prayer!

I'm choosing to mostly ignore your fatuity here and instead overwhelm you with so much data that you'll maybe, just maybe, realize that you have reams to read on this subject before you can contribute meaningfully to any conversation on this topic.

Manu and Kafusi are the key. An injury to either of them will hurt and be tough to overcome like you mentioned. Many is versatile enough to play either inside or out, and Bronson is a Kaufusi, so there isn't much more you need to say. The big thing that may hurt with depth is more guys needing to rotate through if the D is on the field for more plays than normal. Remmington Peck has at least played and been servicable, so I'm comfortable there. Between Marques Johnson, JonRyheem Peoples and Austin Holt, hopefully there are enough bodies there to stay fresh and effective. More than anything, they just need to eat space in order to let the backers do what they do.

Doesn't Ian Dulan or Romney Fuga have another year of eligibility left?
