I think this is a good hire for Washington. It will be interesting to see how he recruits from a big school with big advantages instead of "come join us against them!"

The last mid-major coach to go from success in the mids to compete in the PAC 12 was Whittingham, if Im not mistaken. Petersen may likely see similar success at UW as Whit has had at Utah since they joined the PAC. Then again, Whit generally doesnt have a Bishop Sankey-type player at his disposal.Originally posted by HuskyFreeNorthwest View PostI think this is a good hire for Washington. Petersen is a good coach and jumped ship at the right time. Boise's Cinderella run with the elite was clearly over. Now the program looms on the precipice entirely.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

His first year success will likely depend on convincing Sankey and ASJ to stick around.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostThe last mid-major coach to go from success in the mids to compete in the PAC 12 was Whittingham, if Im not mistaken. Sankey would be crazy to stay. He can't do much better than he did this season. If Petersen can come even remotely close to living up to his boise state glory, Pac 12 North is one of the toughest divisions in college football. Maybe the toughest.Originally posted by HuskyFreeNorthwest View PostHis first year success will likely depend on convincing Sankey and ASJ to stick around.
One thing I like about this move is that it brings another name brand coach into the PAC ranks. This is the first year in almost a decade that we may possibly see a NC game without an SEC rep. The PAC is situating itself nicely to brand itself on par with the SEC in terms of top to bottom (perceived) strength. With ASU's surge and Mora staying at fucla, the entire conference is stacked with tough teams. Except for Utah and Colorado, of course. lol.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

I am curious how Peterson does. He was obviously very deliberate about which job he took. He did not jump at the first BCS offer he had like Dan Hawkins did.
He is taking a job that is not as high profile as some others and a team that was left in decent shape without unrealistic expectations.
Sark has put together some great recruiting classes, his last 4 years per scout he is 11,22,23 and 13th in the team rankings.
He does lose Sankey, Price and most like Sefarian Jenkins.
But Cyler Miles was an elite 11 kid that looks to have a lot of potential, Kasen Williams most likely comes back. Shaq Thompson and Marcus Peters return on D.
He also gets to return to Boise in 2015.*Banned*

Petersen will have the same limitations at UW that Sark had while he was there but new challenges that he didnt have previously at Boise State. have to recruit fiercely in California with no real history of doing so successfully.
have to prep for a BCS conference schedule week in and week out.
I know everyone is assuming Petersen will be the answer but I'm not sure. Sark has been a mediocre coach thus far and achieved mediocre results at UW (as grace pointed out, these mediocre results were still better than anything seen around Montlake for a decade). Sark faced Petersen this season and completely embarrassed him. Petersen didnt even qualify for the MWC championship game this season.
I believe he is a better coach than Sark but my prediction is that 5 years from now Petersen will have achieved around what Sark achieved while at UW. meanwhile, Sark will likely not even be the coach at SC. in short, neither of these coaches is likely the answer unless the goal is simply to get by.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

I agree with you. I don' t think Peterson turns UW in to a national power by any means.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostPetersen will have the same limitations at UW that Sark had while he was there but new challenges that he didnt have previously at Boise State. Namely:

Also rumors are Boise has already contacted Jeff Tedford about the vacant job.*Banned*

As a Peterson fan, I'll be rooting for him to do well. But, I think Peterson was hotter 4 years ago. You can only be the golden boy for so long, and get that next big payday.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostThe last mid-major coach to go from success in the mids to compete in the PAC 12 was Whittingham, if Im not mistaken. It will be interesting to see what Peterson does at UW. I think it is a very good move on his part. Boise peaked three years ago, sorry Phat, I know that is your team. Like you said, Sark has brought in a lot of talent to UW. Talent that program hadn't seen for awhile. The knock on Sark was that he wasn't able to get UW to the top tier of the PAC12 with these great recruiting classes. The Sark to USC hire surprised me a bit because of that reason.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostI am curious how Peterson does. He was obviously very deliberate about which job he took. Can Peterson capitalize on that talent? He will have a good young QB in Miles to build upon that will have some good weapons on the outside if Williams come backs. They also had a talented freshman wide out this past year whose name is escaping me right now.
I have always like Peterson. I think it is a great hire by UW. Peterson will also surround himself with good coaches. He did at Boise, I am sure he will in Seattle."Take it to the Bank"

Also needs to do better in Washington. Sark cleaned up in-state the year he got Sankey, ASJ and Williams, but in the last two years of all **** and above recruits out of Washington Sark went 1/7. He missed out on some huge recruits like Jack, Browne, Banner, etc., and I think the majority all stayed in conference.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostPetersen will have the same limitations at UW that Sark had while he was there but new challenges that he didnt have previously at Boise State.
