  • The Ghosts of Cougar Stadium

There are lots of places on here to reminisce about the Jim McMahons and Steve Youngs of the past but I'd be interested in a thread about the unsung guys that don't get talked about so much anymore.

Criddle and Harrington had Ryan Hancock on their show today--I only caught part of it. Hancock only played one year (1992) I think, but he was fantastic. I think he was 6-1 or 7-1 as a starter. Had he not gone on to play baseball, I think that with one more season he would have cemented his reputation as one of the great ones at BYU. He's rarely mentioned anymore.

Another blast from the past: Kalin Hall. I remember Hall outrushing Marshall Faulk back in the day. Very quick feet. Between him and Jamal Willis, that was a great 1-2 punch.

Shay Muirbrook is one of my top 5 players.

    Dude was a total badass.

Ervin Lee is one that comes to mind. I'm not sure if he was even a starter for a full season, but was one of the best 3 or 4 pure cover corners ever to play at BYU. Forget about his heroics in the Miami game, dude was money on a consistent basis in terms of blanketing receivers.

I loved Hancock. That he got knocked out by a Utah cheap shot made it even more sad.

Undersized, but a non-stop motor, to borrow the cliché. Just the amount of nastiness you want in a LB. I loved watching him play.

Hey, this is your thread, if anybody should, you should abide by the rules. Don't give him credit for Muirbrook - he is one of the biggest stars in BYU history at LB. Leon White, Gouveia, Morris, Muirbrook, Shell... He's in that discussion.

            Unsung.

            Sheesh.

Yeah, he was big in the day. But he doesn't get the love that Gouveia or Morris get when people wax nostalgic. I don't have a good litmus test for "unsung." Do most younger fans know anything about him?

All-conference more than once, get the hell out of this thread, I say.

Kidding of course. Good thread idea, btw.

Muirbrook is a bonafide legend. He's disqualified from this thread.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

Wouldnt siunging be a pretty good test? AFAIK, I have never sung about any linebacker from BYU, so they are all fair game here!

Marcus Whalen...I often wonder what if Ofa Mohatu had taken his heavy foot and gone elsewhere.

Trevor Freakin' Molini! That is how to take a beer bottle to the head at some watering hole in Reno.

Waymon Hamilton...anyone recall him catching that 4th and 10 pass from Steve Young to keep that final drive alive?

I will throw out some more later.

Marv Allen. The guy went on to became a successful doctor but not before curing Michigan fans of all hope in the Holiday Bowl by intercepting a pass with less than a minute to play. He also helped seal a win against Pitt earlier in the season with a key goalline tackle.

Peter Tuipolotu. He was one of the toughest backs BYU has seen.
