Given the non-LDS attrition rates, you probably would have to sign 40%-50% non-LDS recruits just to yield a 20%-30% net figure. Meanwhile, have fun trying to plug in the holes left in their wake.

It will be interesting to do a cost/benefit analysis of the ongoing expansion of our recruiting pool in 4 years or so.
Very valid point. Perhaps under the present circumstances the 20%-30% is non attainable. Perhaps my expectations should be lowered to top non-BCS status and that is it. However, I don't think I can be faulted for when I come to that conclusion my excitement about BYU football drops off a bit.

Perhaps an all RM team will boost enthusiasm overall and I won't be challenging those who are more enthused because of it. It is their choice.

Personally, I don't care if a BYU player is LDS, non-LDS, RM or non-RM; I just want a quality player who can also manage to stay in school. It doesn't do us any good to recruit 5-star players that drop off like flies and leave a bunch of walk-ons filling in the holes left in their wake.

There are a number of assistant coaches that were passive in their recruiting the past few seasons until Bronco basically read them the riot act during this past off-season.

And Yes I know this for a fact.

          How does this happen?
Recruiting is such a huge part of college football. On par with actual coaching.

Good question. It happens because some coaches simply just don't enjoy it or spend the time neccessary.

There are 3 assistants on the staff in particular where their laziness in the recruiting game, really effected the outcome of our last 2 classes but I won't name on here publicly.....and because of that there are a couple of coaches that had to clean up their messes and pick up their slack.

It's one reason why I'd have ZERO problem with either of the 3 coaches moving on. Besides I think new blood into a coaching staff is a healthy thing from time to time.

I will say this...for all the rumors and B.S. about Bronco not recruiting...it's total B.S. Some don't agree with his style of recruiting,,,but I can tell you he's a very effective recruiter and puts in the time.

I thought those comments were more about his recruiting preferences as an assistant coach moreso than a head coach.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

I would worry about depth on your D-line as well. Your starters will be good(esp DE's), but the attrition has hurt you more here than other places. I hope Jan doesn't look at a double team the entire season like last year.

Yeah that would coincide with my..."we're gonna be razor thin on the d-line this year" comment.

Sorry, my red googles mistook DL for DB on your original post.
