Can Ziggy be replicated?

Was listening to Alema at lunch today, and he said Coach Kaufusi said they were going to look to see if they can find more athletes like Ziggy who are smart, good in school, but don't have much experience in football to see if they can develop them like they did with Ziggy. Alema said he was specifically talking about spending times in Samoa and Tonga to try to find some of these types.

Is this a practical idea? If it works, it could be amazing ... but it seems unlikely to work. Do we really want to waste scholarships on people with no football experience? That seems too risky to me. Can we convince some of these types to come to BYU and try to walk on? Seems like a tough sell, especially for international guys.

Ziggy worked because he was already at BYU on his own dime. Tough to see how the situation can be replicated.

We need some kind of exchange system with our converts in Utah. I'm sure there are a lot of potential great athletes in the LDS gene pool there now, but they need American training at an earlier age. Get them over here in grade school in our sports obsessed society, and we will produce quite a few Ziggy's. I'm more interested in corners than DE's, though.

The difference between the physique of a D1 FB vs BB players is striking. Abouo looked like he could step in and play linebacker, but he was listed as 6'5 215 at BYU. The only position he could have played without needing to pack on extra muscle would have been WR. Alani Fua was listed at 6'5 215 last year and was considered skinny as a rail.
