  • I hope you run up the score!

so I'm down in Dallas for the Angelman walkathon, and there's this guy wearing a red ballcap embroidered with an interlocking UU.

Babs, accosting, "Hey, are you a Ute?"

    Ute, confused, "Yes, why?"

Babs: "Nothing. I saw your hat."

Ute: "Are you a Ute, too?"

    Babs: "Nah. I'm a Sooner."

Ute: "Really? I'm going to one of your games this year. I'm going to watch them play BYU."

    Babs: "yeah. me too"

Ute: "And of course I'm rooting for Oklahoma."

    Babs: "good."

Ute: "And I hope you run up the score big!"

    ouch.

Do you really expect a Ute to root for the Cougars, or vice-versa?

lol! Typical Ute fan. More concerned about BYU than their own team.

Congratulations. You met your first Zoot.

I don't blame the Zoot for going down to the BLUE RIVER SHOOTOUT. The U's schedule is pretty lame this coming season. I bet that guy is also going down to Provo to watch the Florida State game, too.

Not in general, but I'd have thought he'd take into account that this is Oklahoma - the team that stole the Utes' rightful spot in the BCS game, the team that embodies all that is awry with the system, the archetype of the perennially-overhyped traditional powerhouse. So I'd have thought the unite-against-a-common-enemy dynamic would trump the rivalry in this case.

You are talking about the U, which is the epitome of Little Brother Syndrome. $100 says none of those thing you mentioned even dawned on that guy. They don't really consider themselves to be equal to the big BCS schools.

apparently. It was cute, though, watching him get absolutely giddy at the prospect of watching BYU get crushed.

I did want to ask him how much good it would do for the Utes' national standing to win their conference next year if they do so by defeating a team that lost by 10 touchdowns to a team that was steamrolled in the national title game. I didn't want to confuse him, though.

No, but if it bothers you, I'll do it.

Utah is playing a top 10 team on the road, and this will be 2 years in a row that Utah's schedule will feature a team that beat USC. Sounds like a decent schedule.

                          lol.

the measure of a good schedule is whether you are playing a team that has beaten USC.

                          I can live with that.

That means that the PAC 10 has the greatest schedules in the country, since every Pac 10 team is playing teams that have beaten USC.

Very true, plus the P10 gets guys drafted. Remember humiliating loss to Oregon State, oh yeah they had the 3rd most guys drafted in the NFL draft behind USC and USC (South Carolina) oh and 4th most drafted was Oregon. The P10 is soft, just ask the NFL.
