That is a good question. I have always wondered why they don't put this on BYUTV. Seems like a no brainer. There isn't anything else going on that would be more watched.

Is it because they don't want to put anything on film this early? That seems a little silly, given today's technology. They aren't going to ban cell phones, all of which have video capacity. The better thing to do would be to make this a big event and not run anything they wouldn't want to put on film yet. Other teams put their spring games on TV. I think I have even seen some of them on ESPN in the past.

I was planning to come down today, but unfortunately I overslept. Wish it would be on BYUTV so I can catch it anyway.

      • Bronco bringing the hype:

Bronco: "Uani Unga is playing as good as any middle linebacker that I have seen in our time here. He has done a really, really nice job."

Bronco: "Real fun part this spring has been to see (DE) Remington Peck emerge as a player ready to step up. I really like what he has done."

Bronco: Peck, Unga and OLB Alani Fua are "becoming different than maybe what they were perceived (to be) before offseason/spring practice."
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

        • Tyler Beck had a really nice game he was everywhere on D. Also numver #49 who is listed as Jordan Egbert was killing the RT off the edge.

I thought Cameron Comer looked solid as well.

Hine dropped a few balls but man he is a big running back.

I will post more when I get home.

          • i was impressed with QB #7, the transfer from snow whos name escapes me. I will say this too, every QB on the field today was better than Riley last year. I hope Olsen is okay, anyone have an update?

            • Olsen has a pcl tear won't need surgery out 5-6 weeks. Christian Stewart is the qb he did look really good. Good athlete.

Sounds like Olsen took a hit. Why aren't the QBs off limits in this game? Seems weird to allow them to be hit, but I guess they were only the backups.

I show Blake Lord, a freshman linebacker, listed as #49. But until our offensive line proves they're actually good again, I'm not going to use them as a measuring stick for our defense.

Jay Drew mentioned it was Jordan Egbert as well.

                        • First of all it was a beautiful day at LES. I took my kids to the Easter Egg Hunt and forgot how crazy people get when something is free. My wife and daughter went to the 4-7 year old section, while I took the 2 year old to the 0-3 section. By the time my wife got to that section with my daughter (30 minutes before the scheduled start) it was cleaned out. I guess a few kids went early (they looked to be from the 208, napper?) and everyone joined in. In the 0-3 section kids were trampled, dragged, and pushed. Some lady had about 3 buckets full of eggs with no kids in sight. Sad scene, my kids still had fun though.

                          The spring game.

Pre-game observations: Adam Hine has huge guns and looks very big for an RB.
Jordan Black fresh off his mission is fat, as is Tui Crichton.
In one on one drills Austin Holt got his ass handed to him every time.
Alani Fua has not gained a pound.
Brad Wilcox and Michael Yeck are monsters on the O-line.
Taysom HIll has a better arm than people think.

                          The actual game:
The offense was very uptempo. They ran a play every 12-15 seconds, I looked at my phone and missed 2 plays. It was insane how fast they were moving. It is much different from last year where a few incompletions or negative plays they would huddle up. The offense even on third and long was going fast. We may have a few series this year that last less than a minute.

Christian Stewart the JC transfer from Snow looked very good. He has a strong arm, and showed serious athleticism breaking tackles and outrunning defenders. I would expect with Olson being hurt he ends up as the number 2 behind Hill.

Ammon Olsen looked ok, he has a decent arm can make all the throws but I am not sure he fits this offense.

Billy Green actually has a nice arm but I noticed they didn't run any read option with him, it was always a straight hand-off.

Tanner Mangum looked really good, he finished 8-8 for 73 yards and a 3 yard td run. Very impressive, to bad he is gone for 2 years.

RBs: Paul Lasike had a long TD run and received the bulk of the carries. He finished with 78 yards on 9 carries. Nate Carter a sophomore from Dixie showed some decent burst at times. AJ Moore is fresh off a mission and looked like it. He is a pretty thick kid for only being 5'9. Jamal Williams had 2 carries, scored a td and had 2 nice receptions. Adam Hine dropped a pass that was a sure TD.

One interesting tidbit they are using Richard Wilson has an H-back very similar to the way the Ravens use Dennis Pitta at times. He lines up in the backfield and stays in as a lead blocker or gets lined up on a linebacker running routes downfield out of hte backfield. I think this is a great role for him.

WRs we mostly saw the scrubs, Cody Raymond actually looked decent but man he is tiny. Devin Mahina dropped a pass.

O-line was hard to tell we played a lot of scrubs and walk-ons. The QBs had decent time for hte most part but we did give up a few sacks.

D-line- marques Johnson played well at nose tackle. Jordan Egbert killed it off the edge but I am sure we never hear from him again.

LBs- Alani Fua and Tyler Beck were everywhere. They both played a great game I was very impressed.

DBs- Cameron COmer had a pick, and Jordan Johson looked pretty good in coverage he did get beat by Ridley on a deep ball but it was incomplete. Michael Wadsworth played quite a bit and laid some big hits. Hague only played one series and looked stiff at corner.

Overall it is hard to tell anything as most of the starters were held out (KVN, Hoff, Falslev, 3 O-lineman, Bronson, etc.) We do know the offense is very uptempo, we definitely ran some read option, and we took quite a few shots down the field.

Defensively it was really basic but I am not worried about them. The offenses did score 30 points which is a nice sign.
