Easy answer: We're on the dark side of the moon and Utah is in a fraternity.

I think there is a lot of "give it a few years in the Pac-12 before we rise to that level" going on among Ute fans.

I think all Utah Fans would give up the win against BYU if it meant a victory against USC, ASU, UCLA or Oregon State.

I'm sure that as others and you point out that

                1. Scoreboard
                2. Pac-12
                3. Much more recent outlier season
                4. A coach that doesn't come across as disinterested or strange in public.

But also the handling of the QB situation. Both teams have had quarterback troubles the last few years, but BYU I think sticks out as more likely mishandled (although I think the Utes are trying to catch up). Still, it is a bigger deal for BYU. BYU has always relied on and leveraged QB play to be good. In addition, it is the position where BYU can arguably get elite recruits. As such, if BYU can't get stellar QB play it really undermines faith in the coaching staff. Because of BYU's natural strength at QB, I think most fans want (and it seems optimal to me) for the coaches to overweight (relative to other programs) coaching and team resources on QB development and management.

                  The games have been entertaining.

I have enjoyed the games I've attended. It was really fun to take my kids for the first time, though I'm afraid they think football game attendance involves going to the bookstore to buy stylin' new hoodies, then lunch in the Cougareat and popcorn and whatnot at the game.

The team has been competitive with everyone it has played.

I always wish for better, but then I think 2/3 to 3/4 of the fans in college football cheer for a horrible team that never does anything, so I end up thinking we're spoiled as BYU fans.

I will get my season tickets again next year, we sold them this year. Should be fun to see some of those teams in our stadium.

Jabba the Girrard was talking on the radio this afternoon and likening the Notre Dame game to our defining game this year, a top 10 team on the road, etc.

Would all be forgotten if we won this game?

I think it would for me. I didn't think the Notre Dame game meant as much to me as the Utah or Boise games.

If BYU won this game, I would be pretty excited the rest of the year.
