A couple of thoughts from being at the game:
1. UCLA fans are very gracious hosts. So generous that our group of nine paid $0.00 to get into the game! Thanks third trombone for the UCLA alumni band.
2. Saw a lot of UC-LA-kers shirts.
3. Blue man group drumming the national anthem was an interesting choice.
4. Instead of the third down jump, UCLA plays the intro music from Who Want to Be a Millionaire on third downs. Unorthodox, but it seemed to work wonders on Saturday.
5. For the entire second half, the scoreboard listed the score as "UCLA: 21 HOU: 7." I felt disrespected.
6. I sat next to Chelsea Hightower of So You Think You Can Dance & Dancing With the Stars fame (of course I recognized her). Her dad is a rabid Ute - she is more interested in texting Derek Hough.
7. Wilson has some promise, but he's extremely raw. Not many progressions today - usually locked in on his intitial target. Threw a couple balls that should have been picked (Kenneth Scott played great defense on one), and is a little bambi-esque in the run game. I give him a grade of INC.
8. York must not be able to pick up a blitz to save his life because we need a bigger RB on goal line and third and short and he can't get in to the game.
9. I did not enjoy the throwback pass from the 3 yard line. I did, however, enjoy the one from the 40. BJ with some really interesting calls - I'm still willing to wait on him but there were some head scratchers on Saturday.
10. A lot of Gangam Style from the UCLA band. SeattleUte would have gone crazy.
11. It seemed like at the start of the game, utah challenged Hundley to make the right reads - only rushing four and generally just trying to contain his scrambling. He burned us a few times and we went to a more typical Utah package with stunts and blitzes which led to a lot more scrambling, but fewer big plays. The bland defense cost 14 points and likely the game.
