Lots of folks didn't think very highly of John Beck until the TCU win his senior year. Likewise, I think Riley Nelson contributing to a win against a top-10 team this week would go a long way in the eyes of a lot of those BYU fans that aren't pleased with what he's brought to the table so far. It's a home game, Bronco seems to know how to plan for Oregon State, the opponent has some key injuries, etc.; it sets up pretty well for him. I hope he takes advantage of the opportunity."What are you prepared to do?" - Jimmy Malone

I think this will help Riley, but I dont think anyone is viewing this as a game against a top 10 team. BYU is favored, which speaks volumes to how Oregon state is perceived as an opponent. It will be a good win, but it won't be a career defining win, even for Riley.Originally posted by Joe Public View PostLots of folks didn't think very highly of John Beck until the TCU win his senior year. I dont think a win over an injured OSU will do anything to improve most peoples perception of OSU. OSU is not a top 25 team when they have so many people injured.Originally posted by Joe Public View PostLots of folks didn't think very highly of John Beck until the TCU win his senior year. I decided to reserve judgment against OSU, though, until I see how they perform. I'll give them the benefit of their record and ranking until they prove otherwise. That might happen very quickly on game day.Originally posted by Maximus View PostI dont think a win over an injured OSU will do anything to improve most peoples perception of OSU. I agree never sell a team playing Vaz at QB short!Originally posted by Joe Public View PostI can understand that reasoning (and I see the betting lines). Exactly!Originally posted by HuskyFreeNorthwest View PostI agree never sell a team playing Vaz at QB short!
He may very likely be as bad as his mop-up stats or inability to win the starting job over an underclassman would indicate, but I'm waiting for him to prove it. If OSU stinks on Saturday, then of course the significance of a BYU victory and Nelson's credit for such victory would carry much less significance than against a typical top-ten team."What are you prepared to do?" - Jimmy Malone

I don't remember people doubting Beck's physical tools, though. He always had excellent arm strength, nice deep ball, etc.Originally posted by Joe Public View PostLots of folks didn't think very highly of John Beck until the TCU win his senior year. Beck was the "it" poster boy. The masses clamored how he lacked it (whatever it, is), while at the same time touting how the scout team qb (Hall), had it in spades. I seemed to recall a popular opinion was, you have IT or you don't, and John would never have it (whatever it, is).Originally posted by Pelado View PostI don't remember people doubting Beck's physical tools, though. In many ways, JB was a bizarro RN- a man who seemingly only has it (whatever it, is)Last edited by Art Vandelay; 10-10-2012, 06:56 PM.
