Dang, I was hoping you or pelagenius would come in with some stats to back up my (most likely incorrect) perception. Perhaps, it is the comparison to an amazing defense, that makes this offense seem like worst ever. In 2003, no one was under the misconception that BYU was anything other than a terrible team. Whereas, with even a mediocre offense, this team had the chance to be very good.
BYU's 2003 scoring defense was inflated by over 5 ppg due to kick and turnover returns that happened when the defense wasn't even on the field. There were also a ton of easy points scored against the defense due to very short fields from turnovers.

I once had a client who had an employee who was the kid who ran an INT back for a TD in that game that was the game's deciding points. Told me it was the highlight of his playing career.

Do the 14 points given up on pick-sixes, this year go against the D? Isn't this years defense even more impressive (statistically speaking), when the two pick 6s are taken away? Let alone the few points they've given up have almost exclusively come on short drives, due to the offense or punt team.

It is a callback to David Pollack on GameDay a few weeks ago. He was hyping the Beavs and Desmond said he was drinking that Beaver Juice. Everyone froze for a minute then started laughing.

Then this week they had a jug of Tampico with JUICE written on the side of it.

Oh, I know about that. I am just surprised that the school would sell the shirts.

The "pound" sign makes it even more odd.

I guess I'm too old to get the hash-tag movement, but I agree with you.

The offense and special teams also allowed 8 or 9 TDs directly off of kick returns and turnover returns in 2003.
As I have said over and over, rankings are nice, but they don't mean squat year to year. I guess you would contend all the National Champions were equally good teams. We have been ranked 20-25 several times during the Bronco era and I will bet at least 10 teams below us were better teams. They just had a lower W/L because of who they played.

There is a thing like how tough the opponents you play are that should be taken into account. Even then it is subjective.

This season the defense has allowed 6.5 ppg and the offense has allowed 2.3 ppg. Regardless of how the scoring actually happened, BYU's defense is recorded as allowing 8.8 ppg.

If you honestly think the 2012 offense is worse than 2003, then all I can say is

                      1. You don't have a statistical leg to stand on

                      2. Your memory sucks

                      3. Take a look at how poorly BYU 2003 offense performed against teams with losing records. BYU scored more than 24 points twice in 2003 and one of those games (UNLV) required overtime to get above that number.

Refresh my memory. Is your statistical prowess an expertise you acquired after Crowton left? As I remember you were the last man standing on the Crowton ship. Surely you weren't there because your stats and great common sense told you he ran a great offense?

Again, you have a serious issue with your memory. Let's see if you or anyone else can find a post of mine claiming the BYU 2003 offense was anything more than abysmal.

So you deny you were still touting Crowton in '04 or whatever was his last year?

I am not going to waste my time trying to find any of your old posts, so if you want to challenge me to look up where you were still on the Crowton bandwaggon, I am not going to do it.

                            • I think BYU gets rolled (and by rolled, I mean, we lose by more than 3...with this defense and offense, any lead by the other team seems insurmountable).
