Yeah, he has to figure out how to be fundamentally sound without losing his nasty streak. Fundamentally nasty!!

That hit on the goalline was filthy clean, though!!!

    • So as it turns out, both teams should have lined up on first down and punted to the other team's offense. That's why the intercepted punt/pass from Lark wasn't that bad.

I love Craig Bills. Looking forward to watching him the next two years.

Yup. If KVN comes back and BYU can land some JC DL help BYU will have a very good defense next year as well.

            • I am a Bronco critic, but his halftime comments about the punting game were spot on. And prophetic.

As big as the defensive plays were for the Cougars, their punt unit came up huge in pinning down the Aztecs four times in the second half. They downed two punts by senior Riley Stephenson at the 1, one at the 2 and another at the 3. They were among the six punts inside the 20.

Stephenson "changed the game," Mendenhall said. ""And he could have easily been the MVP."

              SDSU coach Rocky Long agreed.

"I don't know who got the Most Valuable Player, but I'll tell you who I thought the Most Valuable Player was, was their punter," Long said. "Field position made it tough on the offense."

I agree. I wasn't online during the game, but went back and read the whole thread last night. In hindsight it is pretty comical how people were blasting Bronco's for his comments. If I had heard them, I would have felt the same way.

In reality, the punting game was huge in the second half and may have saved the game for us. Steelblue's son kind of laughed when he said that Stephenson should be the offensive MVP. I kind of agree.

It was still a stupid thing to say. Maybe if the question were "what is the key to the second half?", that would have been appropriate in such a defensive battle. The question, however, was about what changes were needed in the OFFENSE. The OFFENSE. He could have addressed that. What the OFFENSE needed to do better.

I still think it was a stupid comment. But I think he answered literally as to what can be done on the offensive side of the game to improve things. He knows very well he has no QB, no OL, no hope from the offense. So the only thing to give them a fighting chance is field position. It was a very accurate statement given the situation in the game / this team. Which makes me want to cry.

The simple answer was "EVERYTHING". But he knew damn well they weren't going to do much of anything better, so the more reasonable response was to have your #2 ranked punter start to punt like a #2 ranked punter and then unleash your #3 defense on SDSU while they are bottled up deep in their own territory.

It was both a "very accurate statement" and a "stupid comment"?

Let's not forget that we never heard Bronco's comment to the sideline reporter. We heard her short summation of their conversation. You have no idea exactly what Bronco said or how the question was worded.

Look at me. A Bronco apologist.

You're not an apologist, you're simply identifying a bogus criticism. There's a very distinct difference between the two.
