No. Working across the street. One of the players fractured his forearm in the match."You interns are like swallows. You shit all over my patients for six weeks and then fly off."
"Don't be sorry, it's not your fault. It's my fault for overestimating your competence."

In the end, it's about the money. I'm not sure if ESPN played into it, with the load of money coming in. But BYUtv is focusing on functioning like a normal "National" network. I talked with one of the higher ups about it (I do a lot of work as a free-lancer, with different programs they air), as an avid Rugby fan with my family being heavily involved with the team for generations now, I was bummed that such an awesome team wasn't on TV anymore.Originally posted by OceanBlue View PostFinal question. did ESPN put a stop to BYU Tv showing club sports ?
He said that it works something like other schools sports teams, and their facilities... people have to get paid. For all Division 1 sponsored sports that get on BYUtv, the BYU Athletic Department pays for the cost of broadcasting. That includes what they usually make on a broadcast of other shows, Camera rentals, bodies to run the equipment, truck wear and tear, insurance, cables, food, talent... blah blah blah. Since Rugby is a club sport, it would have to prove it could cover all those costs on its own.
I've done a lot of work with ESPN, TNT, NBC, and everything NBA, and that two hour game takes more than a 12 hours day of work for an entire professional crew. The Rugby team may bring in some money, but not a lot. And if BYUtv starts showing good will to one club sport, then all the others will want some breaks... it's hard enough to hire a decent crew for a broadcast. But getting one to donate an extra day of work, for the good of something like Rugby on TV is close to impossible.
It sucked when he explained it to me from that angle (I'm sure there's more factors), but made sense, especially since I do TV and Film for a living and can't afford to just throw out days to work with a volunteer TV crew that will probably make for an awful experience. I would just love to be with my kids on my off time.
If the team picks up good sponsorship and gets a decent following though, I bet BYUtv would start playing them again. But as of now, they want their people to start getting paid, and getting some money to help maintain the station, rather than donate time. Also, considering BYUtv functions mostly on donors right now, unless one specifically requests their money go for Rugby, it may be a while.
I hope that makes sense.

Not sure exactly what you are trying to say so I'll try and respond in what I think you are saying.Originally posted by LiveCoug View PostLOL... Say what?
Yes. Just watched the game on BYUtv (rebroadcast). So I am late to the game but still enjoyed it.
If you are commenting on my "Close for call". I was surprised by how close it was in the 1st. In fact Ark. St. was ahead at first. But BYU came back and won and took a good lead to only have it diminish close to the end.. I did not expect Artk. St. to do that well against them..
