Yes, we are probably temporarily better off financially as Indy. It's a good thing the only thing that matters is money. I feel much better now. Thank you.Originally posted by Marvelous View PostThis is the worst idea of all of them. From a pure capitalistic standpoint, why share with all those other schools? This really is the heart of the issue. I think you've expressed it very well.Originally posted by Flystripper View PostI don't love the idea of a neo mwc. I don't love the idea of the BigEast, but both of these ideas look great once you look at them through a lens that does not include the Big12.
Of all the realistic scenarios BYU might encounter, I support the BigEast. Of course, it's not like we have to join this week, as we've got time to truly search out the best options. And the BigEast has to get a commisioner and a TV deal, etc. But once the move looks good, I think we should jump all over it. We made a bold move once with independence, and I look forward to doing it again with the BigEast."Sure, I fought. I had to fight all my life just to survive. They were all against me. So you're saying that even if BYU goes undefeated and plays for a national championship, it won't be exciting because they didn't win a conference title.Originally posted by Flystripper View PostIt isn't all about the wins. I am not a guy that didn't want to join the big 12 because we would be staring .500 seasons right in face. I want BYU to be a part of college football. I want them to play for something meaningful. The only way that can happen is as a member of a conference. BSU and BYU would be top dogs in the neo mwc. Being a top dog in a somewhat weak conference is better than playing for nothing as an independent with an equally weak schedule. I don't love the idea of a neo mwc. I don't love the idea of the BigEast, but both of these ideas look great once you look at them through a lens that does not include the Big12. The only idea that I truly love is the idea of the of the Big 12, but that idea is now filed away with the ideas of unicorns, Bigfoot, and leprechauns. The idea of independence has always been terrible. It's time to grow up, stop pouting and join a damn conference."I think it was King Benjamin who said 'you sorry ass shitbags who have no skills that the market values also have an obligation to have the attitude that if one day you do in fact win the PowerBall Lottery that you will then impart of your substance to those without.'"

I thought that ND fans were unhappy because despite all of their tradition, rivalry games, independece, and BCS access... they still are relegated to mediocre bowls, waning public respect, and general irrelevancy as soon as they lose a few games.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostLeave him alone! Sort of like what will happen to an independent BYU that loses one game."Sure, I fought. I had to fight all my life just to survive. They were all against me. Tried every dirty trick to cut me down, but I beat the bastards and left them in the ditch."

Please elaborate on that as every major conference would trip over itself to include the Irish in expansion and BYU has agreed to 2 home and 4 away games.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

I know it's well established that you don't really follow sports. So you may be surprised to know that Notre Dame of 2012 is not as highly regarded as Notre Dame of 1990.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostWaning public respect? lol.

Yes it's true that every conference wants them, and that a desperate BYU signed a 2/4. On the other hand, the idea of "waning" esteem means that you had quite a bit to begin with."Sure, I fought. To Pelado: The odds of Byu playing for a national title are so remote that it hardly is worth the conversation, but I will readily concede that if BYU were to play for a BCS championship I would be excited.Last edited by Flystripper; 06-06-2012, 07:03 AM.Dyslexics are teople poo...

I agree that worrying about a ntional title shot is wasted energy. It's a pretty remote possibility.Originally posted by Flystripper View PostThe odds of Byu playing for a national title are so remote that it hardly is worth the conversation, but I will readily concede that if BYU were to play for a BCS championship I would be excited.
On the other hand, playing for a conference title is:
1. Fun
2. Easily possible in the BgEast
A lot better than an exhibtion season anyways."Sure, I fought. I had to fight all my life just to survive. They were all against me. Tried every dirty trick to cut me down, but I beat the bastards and left them in the ditch."

That is surprising to learn. I am sure it is news to Notre dame, as well as the general public.Originally posted by San Juan Sun View PostI know it's well established that you don't really follow sports. I love this claim. We're still waiting for you to return the money given to you through multiple BCS bids by Utah and TCU.Originally posted by Marvelous View PostThis is the worst idea of all of them. 8 good games? That's a laugh.Originally posted by Commando View Post
Oh was it? Yeah --poor BYU hanging its head in defeat, dumping 8 shitty teams from their back, landing their own extremely lucrative, one-of-a-kind long term deal with ESPN, gaining all TV rights, and only one season deep into independence playing a great schedule w 8 good games and 4 bums...
It's clear that the losing party here was the MWC: once on the cusp of BCS eligibility with Boise State as the final jewel about to be mounted into the crown, its aspirations were abruptly shattered when all its good teams left at the same time, its TV network went under, and they became the new WAC.
I guess, according to you, BYU should have weathered the storm in the MWC? I'll make an equivalent statement to yours: Utah's real "resignation of defeat" was joining the Pac-12 in the first place.
Utah had already conquered the highest peak offered by being in the MWC. Twice. So we had nothing more to prove.
And my comments about BYU aren't meant to suggest that staying in the MWC was the only move it should have made, but is meant to prick the balloon of everyone who insists that independence is far and away a superior alternative to the MWC. In some respects it is, but in many others it isn't.
