Another development was the agreement by FBS commissioners and other officials to eliminate the practice of designating conferences as "AQ" and "non-AQ" leagues.
As far as which 4 teams they take, which format would you prefer? The 4 highest ranked teams, the 3 highest ranked conference champions and one at-large, the 4 highest ranked conference champions, or some sort of selection committee to pick the 4 teams?

The four highest ranked teams seems to make the most sense.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."
This is a great step in the right direction.. We start at 4.. How they set it up will beintersting. Top 4 seems about right.. But I hope as this goes that direction it moves to 8 teams playoff.. That seems to be the ideal place..
I love the idea of a 4 team playoff, but I hope it is just the beginning. An 8-team playoff seems a likely end game here, but I'd really love to see a 16 team playoff.
Don't worry about people stealing your ideas. If your ideas are any good, you'll have to ram them down people's throats.

this is what needs to happen, a 16 team playoff where every conference champion gets in. Seed them 1-16, the higher seed always plays at home and the top 4 teams get a double bye. Currently that would make for 11 auto bids for the conferences, and 5 at large teams. Get rid of two conferences (MAC, Sunbelt, or WAC) and you have an even better scenario for the big boys.

"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

Yes, the federal government should take over college football. Let's create the Department of College Football and appoint one of Obama's top contributors from Goldman Sachs to run it and make sure his Alma mater always gets in.

The four teams will most likely be three conference champions and an at-large or fourth conference champion taken from: PAC-12, Big 12, Big Ten, SEC, and ACC. The at-large spot will be so Notre Dame can be included or teams like 2011 Alabama or 2010 TCU.
The system isn't perfect and there will be some controversial selections. For instance, the 2003 season when Kansas St. upset undefeated Oklahoma in the Big 12 CG. The Sooners (12-1) would probably have made a four-team playoff over KSU (11-3). Other teams in 2003 would probably have been: LSU (12-1), USC (11-1) and Michigan (10-2).
I doubt we ever see an 8 or 16 team playoff. The bowl games will always be played and they won't allow taking more than four teams out of the bowl picture. It will be difficult to play the playoff games in the bowl stadiums because fans would potentially have to travel one week to Miami and the next week to Pasadena. It is more realistic to have the higher seed teams host the first round and then play the championship at a pre-determined site.
