I think that Utah becoming a state that produces more D-1 talent is one thing that will help both BYU and Utah become BCS schools.Originally posted by CardiacCoug View PostNot sure if this has been posted, but I thought it was an interesting read.

I think Utah HS talent finally showing up on the national radar is a negative thing because we are increasingly in competition with programs that Utah and BYU can never hope to consistently outperform.Originally posted by Hot Lunch View PostI think that Utah becoming a state that produces more D-1 talent is one thing that will help both BYU and Utah become BCS schools.

I don't see any of it being negative. I have to disagree with you on this one.Originally posted by Indy Coug View PostI think Utah HS talent finally showing up on the national radar is a negative thing because we are increasingly in competition with programs that Utah and BYU can never hope to consistently outperform."Take it to the Bank"

Speak for yourself. Utah is outperforming them. This is interesting and is related to why schools tend to excel in football or basketball but not both (with a few exceptions). Football tends to be top draw in states with a more rural culture and history; basketball is very urban. For obvious reasons we see this reflected at the college level. Anomalously, Historically Utah was more of a basketball than a football hotbead. Even BYU had a better basketball tradition until Lavelle established himself. Now football is thriving at the grass roots in Utah, and we are seeing the results at the college level. Basketball, however, continues basically to underperform at the grass roots level. When a true genius appears, you can know him by this sign: that all the dunces are in a confederacy against him.

Consistently outperforming the top BCS programs? You mean with all those 4 and 5 loss seasons from 2005 to 2007 that had them well outside the top 25? USC has been put on notice.Originally posted by SeattleUte View PostSpeak for yourself. Utah is outperforming them. (I'm familiar with your defeatist polemics on CB.)
