  • Goodbye, Mr. Mendenhall?

The Dick article and his mention of Bronco as a candidate at UCLA combined with the utter frustration he must feel about being an independent nobody makes me think he could really be a goner after the bowl game.

21 out of 119 Div I positions open. Stunning. Who woulda thunk the highest unemployment rate amongst u.s.-americans (http://youtu.be/lj3iNxZ8Dww) would be Div I coaches?

I thought Bronco had already withdrawn his name from consideration.
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

I would be surprised. I think Bronco is a company man and a true believer in the institution ( BYU). I think he will be at BYU forever.

        I think that's just a put-on.

I dont think UCLA hires him. He mixes too much religion with his football.

If BM leaves Provo, I am skeptical its for a HC position (maybe some school in the bi oe belt would take him).

Forever, meaning until he's called to be a mission president or called to the 2nd quorum of the seventy. Or perhaps he just skips all that and goes straight to the twelve.

I could see a Penn State going after him - some program that needs a squeaky clean coach.

Yeah, that could be quite possible. It seems like PSU would be ill-advised to take the risk on anyone who was in the program during the Sandusky era...

fwiw, Bronco was asked a couple years ago if he could ever picture himself coaching at a another school, and he basically gave a list of schools where he could see that happening. I remember Stanford and the service academies off the top of my head, but can't recall the others.

i think the naked one is onto something here re: PSU.

What better hire than a successful, squeaky-clean Mormon coach to turn around PSU?

As much trash as I talk about Mendenhall, I can't imagine getting a replacement worth a damn right now.

He would be near the top of my list. Not a big name, but he is clean and defensive minded. Would fit well with Penn State.
