  • About Jason Munns

    Here's a kid who:

*had offers from ASU, Utah, BYU and WSU
*was rated by Chris Fetters as being the top "field general" among the QBs in his class in the NW
*impressed BYU coaches before his mission - the offensive coaches uniformly had high hopes for him before he left

    and then.....

seems to have just been a suckfest since he got back.

Here is a hope - maybe even a prayer - that the guy has sucked because he walked into a post-mish situation where it seemed completely clear that he was going to be buried on the depth chart, that the guy in his same class was a surefire star who would be there until he graduated and two other QBs had more prep time who were only separated from him by one season.... his motivation went up in smoke.

But now... w/ Heaps leaving whatever it was that coaches and scouts saw in the pre-mission Munns will be resurrected from the ashes of his post-mission morass and that with the right mentoring that in 2013 we'll put a guy on the field who has marinated at a simmer for years and is ready to step in as a mature first year starter in 2013, after having earned some PT in 2012 owing both to coaching foresight and to Riley's inevitable injuries.

A brother's gotta have something to cling to.

Our players should never go on missions.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

I disagree they are role models for the youth of the church. Talented LDS kids that don't want to go on missions should go to a heathen school like Utah.

who I watched multiple times in HS and saw a very inaccurate rifle arm (hmmm, must be a WA thing) each time. I watched Heaps 3 times, saw Locker twice and Kellen Moore 5 or 6 times. Munns was nowhere near as good as the others in HS. With that said, I watched Cade McNown in HS and was shocked he got a D-1 scholarship let alone making it to the league for a couple years. In other words, I don't know much.

Fair enough - more than I can say.

But... it's worth pointing out that Heaps (at least, not sure about the others) played on a top high school team. Munns was surrounded by really crappy talent if I'm not mistaken and played on a losing team - a lot easier to look good when you've got a bunch of D1 talent around you.

Also, if I'm not mistaken, he didn't have any training at QB before high school...

Munns is your Griff Robles, only worse.

Not possible. He may never humiliate himself in live action as Griff has but he was recruited and groomed as a QB and there he will remain. As you mentioned in the other thread, perhaps had they chosen to move him early it might have been different but at this pont in his career I'm sure popping pads and making tackles is out of the question.

For better or worse, Munns never had the type of advocates that Robles did.

Pretty much. In 2007 Robles was ranked 12 by rivals (I know how you love those rankings) and Munns was 15th.

I saw Munns in HS as well and he wasn't that good. Moore was light years ahead of him.
