It's a great song, which may or may not belong at a football game. Unfortunately, BYU did it first, thus ruining it.

I believe no one has considered it to start.

I do like SDSU's (to my knowledge, original) use of Muse's Uprising during basketball games. I don't like SDSU's students use of "It was Jimmer's baby" signs, however.

Though the term isn't used as much, I think it would be fresh and original if the cheerleaders yelled," two bits...four bits.... six bits a dollar...all for Utah, stand up and holler". Then the crowd could all stand up and, you know, holler.
Word is that the next new cheer will be the west side standing and yelling "We've got spirit; yes we do! We've got spirit; how about you!?" Then they all point to the east side. Reciprocity would then dictate that the east side repeat the cheer and point to the west side. This exchange would then continue for a minimum of 4 times, with each ensuing encouragement of participation being louder than the previous.

My source is the mother of a former Ute cheerleader who is still involved somewhat with the cheer squad.

That is a slogan not a tradition.

Websters defines slogan as: 1.A short and striking or memorable phrase used in advertising.

Websters defines tradition as: 1.The transmission of customs or beliefs from generation to generation, or the fact of being passed on in this way.
2.A long-established custom or belief that has been passed on in this way.

                              Big difference.
