I can see that what I wrote could be confusing. I don't think BYU is his dream job. If it was he would have taken it who offered. I meant he could leave Utah for a dream job like USC, Florida, Texas, Ohio State type gig and then return to his roots at BYU the last few years before retiring.

I thought he was on record saying he didn't want to coach much beyond the age of 60. If so, Chris Hill needs to keep his eyes open for solid coaching talent in a few years. The football program and fans won't tolerate a Giacoletti-esque hire for the premier football program in the state.

I actually knew what you were saying, but couldn't help but give DDD a little jab.

It may be the Ute fan in me, but I don't think KW would leave Utah for another college team. He's been there since 1994. That's a lot of life invested at one job in the coaching world.

The NFL, OTH, may be a challenge he would consider and I doubt anyone but a zoot would blame him if he gave it a try. Coaching at the highest level, be it a position coach, coordinator or head coach, would be something that pretty much any coach would have in the back of his mind.

He'd have to be a DC at the NFL level first. If my memory serves me correct, great college coaches haven't fared so well the last 20 years at the NFL level. I don't think a team would roll the dice on K-Whit.

Nor do I think he'd be offered a head coaching position. KW's strength is defense. His best contribution for an NFL team would be as a DC.

KW might make a decent DC in the NFL.

If he ever leaves, I hope they can convince Mike McCoy to come home to Utah.

I'm assuming any rational BYU fan (i.e. 20% of the base) would take Kyle back in heartbeat. I don't see that happening anytime soon. I am curious what it would take for him to get fired by Dr. Hill (he is still the AD, right?). It looks like this will be another season finishing in the middle, or towards the bottom of the P12 south. Assuming he continues to be BYU's daddy, how long do the fans/adminstration tolerate being an otherwise mediocre team?

He has earned a long leash. They would be stupid to fire him.

Utah is happy to just be part of the party. Why would you leave that for a place with actual expectations?

I think this is his last job.

I agree. I would love if Utah was dumb enough to let him go (many, many Power 5 schools have proven to be that dumb. See: Miles, Les). What I'm curious of is how long is the middle of PAC going to be good enough? If it was LA or Seattle, the answer is: not long; in Corvallis, the answer is: forever. I don't know what the reply is for SLC

Yes, given the long, distinguished pedigree of Utah football, Dr Chris Hill PhD is likely to quickly tire of Whittingham's antics.

If only there was another (preferably local) team that had an unpleasant experience driving out a successful coach. Maybe that would calm Hill's nerves. If only....

I don't follow Utah football (although I'll admit to watching them get their asses beat by ASU last Saturday), but I assume Scalley is the HC-in-waiting whenever it is that K-Whit decides to hang up the undersized pants (which I assume further won't be for several more years).
