  • That video does look pretty staged- what with multiple cuts and angles. It almost reads like a scene from Arrested Development with the voiceover. That casual shrug at the end kills me.

This ought to gladden BYU fans' hearts.

Dick Harmon: Why is BYU football coach Bronco Mendenhall anxious to extend his contract?

Back when Bronco got his 3 year extension - he said that it would be silly to do a long-term contract. Quite often schools decide they are done with a coach, and sometimes a coach decides they are done with a school. And either way the contract doesn't cause the relationship to continue - one side or the other will still end it.

Taking both of those into account - it makes sense to both sides to have a shorter deal. Then they can assess what has happened and if they want to continue the relationship.

Now - in fairness Harmon kind of lays out his ideas as to why they should continue the relationship. But he begins the article by making it sound like Bronco was expecting to be done at BYU at the end of the last 3 year extension. And that was never true. What was true, was that he believed it would be a good time for both sides to re-evaluate and decide if they both wanted to continue.

But that's Harmon for you, right?

          • I think Harmon reads so much of CB/TBS/etc that his recollections get clouded by the faux narratives carved out by these sites.

I used to dislike his writing but now he's kind of a beloved part of the sports landscape to me. He also seems like a nice guy personally. Or maybe I'm just getting old.
