Tragedy hits Utah Football

if this was at the hands of a drunk driver, that is sickening. i will never be able to comprehend how anyone could be that irresponsible.

This is tragic. Two people dead and another in bad shape. I remember seeing the look in a young man's eyes when I happened to know that his wife had passed away but he did not yet know it. The look of anguish on his face tore me to the core. After work that night I went home, held my wife of 6 months, and wept.

Police do not believe drugs or alcohol to be a factor, and have not released which vehicle ran the red light.

Police are still working on a toxicology report for the driver of the Jeep; however, because Davis died, Powell said no criminal charges will be filed.

The guy was drunk and ran a red light hitting her car. I live a few hundred yards from this and heard the crash like it was right outside my door. I ran out to see what happened and talked to witnesses. The guy in the white jeep was going what witnesses guessed as over 100mph and was swerving around Cars into the middle lane when he went through the intersection. Her car ended up at least 100 feet west of the intersection and was horribly smashed up. The hardest part was about an hour or so later as I was laying in bed, what I can only assume was several family members gathered at the intersection and you could hear the anguished cries throughout the neighborhood.

It has to be bad enough to hear the crash, but to hear the sorrow of those who lost a loved one would be unimaginable.

If the driver of the other vehicle was drunk, I'll repeat my thoughts about what the punishment should be for DUI:

The first offense for DUI that does not result in the death of innocent victims should be punishable by life in prison without the possibility of parole. If a death is a result of the DUI, the punishment should be the death penalty.

What a horrible event and I wish him and the family the best love and support they can get. My stance on the punishments for DUIs aren't quite as harsh as IPU, but pretty close.

Horrible, horrible tragedy and completely preventable. Such a waste. The driver of the vehicle at fault was ejected several feet and was killed immediately. Still no indication of whether alcohol/drugs were involved.

I once witnessed a motorcycle accident that involved a rider being run over by a semi. There was nothing that could be done about the victim, but I ended up spending almost an hour with his very tough riding buddy crying on my shoulder. It was the most heart wrenching moment of my life - I can't even imagine what it is like to lose a loved one so suddenly. Those cries are brutally intense and inconsolable.
