    1. Richard Wilson shaves his legs, but if I had his quads I might consider it myself.

    2. One QB has sweet abs!

    3. It has been said before, but good gawd Jake Heaps can throw the ball.

I was just about to ask if anyone was going. I take it you are there, Goat?
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

I'd ask the attendance but it's not 30 min past starting time yet.

I don't know but at least twice as many as last year. It is pretty crowded. No fake ta-ta sightings yet!

Highlight for the receivers was when McKay Jacobson caught a ball, put a move on Corby Eason, and sprinted untouched to the end zone.
It may have as much to do with Apo's emergence as anything but I'm confident McKay will make up for a lackluster 2010. I'm really excited about this group.

McKay abused the CBs all practice. The above mentioned move on Corby was right after another CB was trying to poke the ball out after a WR made a catch in a 1-1 drill and Corby came on the field jawing. McKay promptly burned Corby, badly. In fact most of our good receivers, MJ, CH and RA burned the CBs often. Methinks the front 7 better cover the Y against good D1 offenses.

Apo still appears to occasionally get the dropsies.

I hate this. For the past three years we have attended an open practice. This year I had to return home early (Noah's own football practices started), so no go. We didn't even get some free posters.

                        Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Now that I have a real keyboard to type on I can offer my more profound thoughts:

1.) CBs - They have trouble covering the WRs on 1-1 drills. I don't think the CBs are absolutely lost but I also doubt many of them would play a lot for teams with good DBs. Saying that, after giving it some thoughts those 1-1 drills enormously favor the WRs. WRT the QB, all things are perfect. Open passing lanes, no rush etc. I don't go to other teams' open practices (Note to Coach Mendnehall I am not the droid/scout you are looking for!) so it might be that at most programs the 1-1 drills end up lopsided for the WRs as well. If the front 7 plays well I think the DBs will be fine, I don't think they will be as good as the 2003 crew or cover as well as the CBs in the late 90's, but they will be more than adequate for BYU this season. I tend to agree with the sentiment that it appears to me to be little distinguishing difference in ability from #1 to #3. If there are injuries there the dropoff should not be very much.

2.) McKay Jacobsen is looking very focussed, fit and good. It will not surprise me if he ends up being one of the top two receivers for BYU this year. Apo is explosive and Hoffman is a the consummate possession receiver, but McKayJake seems to me to be the second most explosive and the second most possession type as well. With his experience, I expect him to really play well for BYU this year.

3.) Apo appears to me high risk/high reward. He seems to drop the ball the most frequently, now my sample size is as limited my number of intimate partners, but he also has the most ability to make your nipples hard with the ball in his hand.

4.) The difference in throwing ability from Jake Heaps to the others is as obvious as who Jake Heaps' Grandpa is. Enjoy it BYU fans until another QB superstar comes along. I think Lark could be a top 10 NCAA qb if he were not at BYU. I think he could be as good as Max was if he were given the opportunity. I think Munns needs to move to either DE or TE. Riley is fine where he is as the free ab backup/wildcat/Elaine Bennis Bosnian Big Head/Gunner on special teams. But, but, but freaking but, Jake Heaps can really, really throw a pretty ball that gets there in an amount of time that will cause our devoutly chaste mormon (and dry mormons - looking at you Babs!) women to remember a twinge of messy disapointment.

5.) Defense was on the other side of the field so I noticed very little other than our OLBs are really, really fast.

6.) I find the growth of the number of African-American players the past couple of years inspiring. I don't think BYU has as many black kids as they had in the 90's, but it is beginning to grow. 4 of the kids are LDS RMs, 4 more are LDS kids not planning to serve and 6 are kids who came to BYU as non-LDS. Further, it appears to me without going through the numbers that the majority of the black kids recruited during Mendenhall's tenure have made it through all their years of elgibility. I throw this in because I know this is a demagraphic '71 and I like to follow.

I think this is definitely the case. It also changes things for WRs when you know that - even when they are hitting you (which isn't much of the time in these drills), they're your friends and teammates and don't really want to destroy you.
