Looks like you need to up your budget a little.Originally posted by falafel View PostThere hasn't been a lot of BYU gear that I would have considered wearing until recently. Even now, there's still not a great selection. A whole lot of this crap going on:

So...are you saying only Catholics wear ND gear? I would disagree. I see it on BYU campus, etc. (course, that is probably the height of a LDS student's "rebellion" to be different, but I digress)...I just think that the association with "Catholic" vs. Notre Dame gear is not made in the same way that "Mormon" and BYU gear.
If I see someone wearing ND gear...I don't think I have ever said to myself..."Oh, that dude is a fully invested Catholic".
But, if people see someone sporting BYU gear, I think it is more likely for others to look at that person and say: "That dude is definitely a Mormon"."Newton's First Law of Motion: ...things at rest tend to stay at rest. Things in motion, tend to stay in motion...."

I'm just saying that the number of "no-chance-in-hell-I'm-wearing-that" offerings is far greater than the one's I'd actually wear.Originally posted by kccougar View PostLooks like you need to up your budget a little.Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. It's a rebellion thing. I once owned and regularly wore a Berkeley sweatshirt for no other reason than I thought it seemed cool. You couldn't pay me to wear one now.Originally posted by Borg View PostSo...are you saying only Catholics wear ND gear? I would disagree. Are we talking about the Y logo? Outside of LDS territory, others are going not going to say, "That dude is definitely a Mormon." They're going to say, "I have no idea what that logo is." Like Y said, the logo is too generic for people to recognize it.Originally posted by Borg View Post

I agree that if you're touting obvious BYU gear, others are going to assume you're Mormon. That's why niku goes out of his way to avoid it.

If the gear is worn near enough to New Haven, you may get a "Go Bulldogs!"Originally posted by Babs View PostAre we talking about the Y logo? Really interesting. I grew up in Utah and grew up associating BYU with wimps, nerds and basically dip shits. I was at the time also very active in the church.Originally posted by kccougar View PostI doubt it. Most mormon BYU fans even shy away from sporting BYU gear for fear of being labeled as "fully invested".
I ended up at BYU and found out the students there were as unwimpy, unnerdy, un dip shitty as the other two Universities I went to. I also fell in love with BYU BB and eventually BYU football.
I still will only wear BYU gear at BYU events.
My kids on the other hand grew up big time BYU fans due to their dad's indoctrination. Somehow they have a disconnect when it comes to BYU athletics and the University. They will wear BYU gear where ever they go. They associate BYU gear only with BYU athletics.
