Where you stay depends on what your priorities are. Austin traffic around the area is terrible even when there's not a game, so you may want to stay near campus, although that could get pricey. If you want to save some money you can stay further out, but you'll need to leave plenty of travel time.

To answer your question, all the "action" is about a mile south of campus in the downtown district. The hotels around there are outrageous. I wouldn't spring for a place downtown, personally.

Is the W in the downtown area? I get that for a cash and points deal that make it quite affordable. Is that walking distance?

I think it qualifies as a humble admission that I can't afford $480 a night for a hotel room. $90 is the cheapest hotel room in the city!

I think it is 6:00 pm local time. Might be 7:00 pm. I figure I will head in around noon to tailgate. Traffic delays shouldn't be much of a factor with that much lead time. Should be a fun day.

What a great trip with lots of fun. I am bummed I am not going to be able to make it. The seats BYU had available, even the so called good ones, are where an old guy like me wouldn't be able to see the game.

On line tickets are too much for someone in my financial condition.

I long for the day when RF's dream for America comes true. Any of us who want to go to the game and have good seats can go regardless of our financial condition.

Great idea! There's a whole strip (heh) along the east side of I-35. Look for the signs that say GIRLS GIRLS GIRLS. There's also one random pet store in there. That's the one with the sign that says "LIVE NUDE FISH."
