      • Gay pride parade right down Congress Ave...or in other words about 5 blocks from my hotel. 10am Saturday morning. I'm there and in my BYU gear. Maybe I will be in the Ensign?

Yes. The city will be awash in pride that weekend.

          • Is the film festival part of the larger Pride weekend? There is a parade and then a festival in the afternoon.

If i can talk my wife into going, im heading over to the festival at noon or so. Leslie and the LYs are playing (gem sweater woman/"tight pants body rolls" song) and I think her show would be awesome. I'm pretty positive she isn't coming to Utah anytime soon.

This is how pathetic UT game day is....a gay pride festival has more appeal than anying going on near the stadium.

I highly recommend a visit to the Alamo Drafthouse Theater if you're brave enough. Very fun. It's nothing but straight gay pride showings all weekend, though.

The film fest has been running since the 80s. My understanding was that the pride weekend followed (it only organized as an official 501c3 last year), but I have no idea.

Is the film festival at the Drafthouse? Did you have to send an application into Harry Knowles and then be selected as one of the greatest fans of GLBT cinema? If not I am safe in assuming that this is not as serious as the BNAT festival later in the year.

                    • Andy Staples of si.com names a new BBQ national champion...

[...]We have a new barbecue national champion.Trust me, I understand the gravity of ranking Austin’s Franklin Barbecue ahead of previous national champs Sweatman’s (Holly Hill, S.C.) and Archibald’s (Northport, Ala.). I’ve abandoned the states of my birth and my mother’s birth and the sanctity of pork to embrace a bunch of Texas brisket-eaters. I realize that by doing this, some family members may no longer wish to speak to me. That’s OK. I’ve grown accustomed to being ostracized by my fellow Southerners. This same phenomenon takes place whenever I rank Boise State above an SEC power while doing my real job.

In my defense, all I can say is this: If you haven’t tasted Franklin’s brisket, you can’t possibly understand. There is a reason diners line up outside as many as two hours before Franklin opens at 11 a.m. There is a reason the place sometimes shuts down before the lunch hour ends at most companies, and it isn’t because Franklin serves honest-to-God brewed sweet tea in a region where sweet tea availability is hit-or-miss. The brisket is the reason.

I’ll be the first to admit that I’m way behind on Franklin. Foodies have worshipped the place since pitmaster Aaron Franklin started his business in a trailer in 2009. Last month, Georgian Andrew Knowlton also turned his back on his roots and named Franklin the nation’s best barbecue joint in Bon Appétit. In Knowlton’s story, Franklin admits that his initial effort at brisket was “awfully terrible.” He also claims to only use salt and pepper to spice the meat before it embarks on an 18-hour smoke at 250-270 degrees.

                      [...]
So if you have an extra two hours while in Austin you may want to get in line for some Franklin BBQ.

                      • DAMN!

My nephew called to tell me where his (my) seats are located for the UT game. 50 yard line 11 rows back. He and his wife and kids will be at the 40 yardline 19 rows back. And the final 4 seats are between the 10 & 20 yard line 30 rows back. I've got to pay face value for mine.

Somehow I'm sure you can manage the 80 bucks.

That's all? Seems cheap for such good seats. How much are tickets going for in this game?

Okahoma and Texas charge flat-rate for tickets. All seats are the same price. Then they just milk the heck out of the booster clubs. The cheapest game this year is 65. Rice or Utah State or something. BYU is 85. The biggest conference matchups are 110.

As far as off market, tickets are inflated right now, as you'd expect. There are still tix available from the box office, though, so I'd imagine tickets will be available at or below face on gameday.
