    2nd: 13/16 152, 1 td, 1 pick
Ok, ESPN posted their stats and now there's a fuller look at the split for Heaps.

    1st: 11/22, 74 yards, 50% comp, 3.36 ypa, long of 12, 0 td, 0 int, 78.3 PER
    2nd: 13/16, 151 yards, 81.3% comp, 9.44 ypa, long of 26, 1 td, 1 int, 168.7 PER

I don't see where there's any way to argue that he wasn't good-very good in at least half this game. The pick was an obvious mistake, but it wasn't as egregious as most pick 6's. Interceptions happen, and if the entire offense wasn't completely inept and tackling, that thing wouldn't have gone anywhere and was just another interception.

Of course, it's impossible to argue that he wasn't entirely shitty in the 1st half. Hopefully that was just a combination of jitters/new OC/first time getting hit/inexperience with new formations/etc. and we'll see a lot more the second half Heaps going forward. And, it's not like we haven't seen something like this before when we've opened on the road. This game to me felt like the openers against BC and Arizona (were those both Beck years?) where the offense just looked a bit out of sync and stumbled out of the gates -- fortunately yesterday they got it together in the 2nd half. I think in that Arizona game we only scored one offensive TD as well and the offense was fine after that game.

Update: I did not get on the AM to SLC, so Im in ORD waiting for the 1230. If that doesn't pan out, next flight isn't until 550. But...the cubs host the pirates at Wrigley, so might as well head over and catch the game. Tickets could not possibly cost more than $5 to get in. Even if both teams stink, it is always fun to watch a game at Wrigley.

As a side note, I'm sitting here next to two interesting groups. One is a group of Korean folk. One of them, an older guy, is wearing a shirt that says "DUBAI....HOT" he has folded up the shirt, exposing his mid section, so he can rub his belly repeatedly while everyone in the group chats. Right next to me is a woman that is pushing a dog around in a stroller. The dog has clothes on (a little blue jacket) and the stroller looks like something you would use for a real baby.

Since my shame quotient is pretty low right now, I have snapped pics of both :rockon2:

"It's funny. I saw Kyle Van Noy line up I thought, 'That tackle has no idea what's coming,'" said Reynolds, who has spent the past month lining up against Van Noy in practice. "I've seen that stance in camp. I know what's coming. Sure enough, he came flying off that edge. It was so exciting. It was so fun."

Every pass Ole Miss completed in the 2nd half except one was to the guy Eason was covering. He was also burned (along with Uale) on the dropped TD.

              Eason was getting abused.

I need to watch the replay. Bummer, because I thought Eason would be a bright spot.

Funk I know you are trying to deflect some of the poor qb play from Wynn over the weekend and down play BYUs win over on the road over an SEC team by bashing Heaps. But the stats in this case do not lie.

Heaps was very good in the 2nd half. The pick was a bad decision especially the timing since they were in the redzone and in a position to at least tie the game. But his final numbers in that half a PE of 168 and the fact that he answered with another long drive only to see BYU miss a field goal and then answers again finally scoring a TD to me is a great sign and something that I am excited to watch going forward.

I doubt you watched much of the game yesterday but if you did you will see that Heaps has all of the physical ability in the world. Bob Davie was getting all hot and bothered when Heaps threw an our route from the far side of the field on a 3 step drop to Mckay Jacobsen. It was an absoute NFL throw and then some. He needs to cut down on the mistakes and I think the first half was jitters.

Hopefully the 2nd half is what we see moving forward. Also Ole Miss has a decent defense they are fast sideline to sideline and even though their secondary was bad last year, they returned everyone and Houston Nutt thought they would be the most improved part of the team.

One other thing, the route Apo ran on that touchdown was a thing of beauty. That had Cahoons fingerprints all over it. No way does he do that last year.

Also on the ball he caught down the field the move he put on to break press coverage was also very good.

He was definitely not. Way too large of a cushion, although on one of the big conversions Ole Miss had it looked like Pendelton got a little too wide on his flat coverage without a receiver in the zone. Had he hung a little tighter he could have helped close the passing window and potentially came away with a pick.

I thought their D was above average but the only way they got pressure on heaps was blitzing from their secondary. If they want to be a good defense in the SEC they are going to need to get pressure with the front 4 which they were unable to do against BYU. Their secondary seemed to play very well, but I am not sure if that was a function of us having average to below average wide receivers. We will still have questions about the Old Miss defense and the BYU offense for a few more games.

Apo had his man beat easily but the throw was slightly under thrown and his slowing down to adjust to the ball put the DB in great position. He still made a great catch, but if Heaps leads him correctly on that ball it might have been 6 points.

I've watched that thing a couple times this morning. Great move by Apo and great toss by Heaps. There's a clip of it here:
