I think Bobby Bell was still given the defensive MVP of that game for all the trouble he created for BYU.

That wasn't one of Steve's better games, game-winning catch notwithstanding.

Most likely due to a Missouri team that was very good. It defeated Rose Bowl bound Illinois, Oklahoma, and gave an undefeated (until the Orange Bowl) Nebraska team every thing it could handle. I was hoping BYU would win that game but expecting them to lose because, while following the Big 8, I realized Missouri was a very good team and could have easily been (9-2) instead of (7-4) going into the Holiday Bowl.

That's an interesting bit of data. It's funny I'd always kind of wondered why that was such a tough game (but I was 8 when I was watching it so I didn't know what exactly to wonder). I didn't realize they were one of those teams.

Lets just say that Bronco's sexy bowl game winning percentage is a bit inflated due to bowl bloat. I am not sure if Utenation has occassionally referenced their gaudy bowl records vis-a-vis that of the BYU, but for much of BYU's bowl history they were actually playing teams that deserved to be in bowl games. Under the Kyle and Bronco tenure, methinks Kyle is 2-1 (Georgia Tech, Bama and Boise State) against teams that deserved to be in bowl games and Bronco is 1-0 (Oregon State) with two losses to teams who probably should not have been in a bowl game.

That Missouri team could play. I was 11 but still recall 99 being all over the damned place. I still remember the goal line stand that preceded Steve Young finding Eddo and all the glorious happenings in that final drive.
