If you had seen him work the room during halftime at the SDSU hoops game, you would understand why he is an assistant AD and not a coach. He can do more for the program working the room than he can coaching the kids. I loved Tom Mullen and like Brian Santiago but Chad Lewis will pay for himself and all the assistant coaches with his ability to influence donors.

If you had seen him work the room during halftime at the SDSU hoops game, you would understand why he is an assistant AD and not a coach. He can do more for the program working the room than he can coaching the kids. Trying to work a room full of donors at any school sounds like a monumental task but at BYU I'm sure it's even more difficult. I'm sure Chad is equal to the task though.

(For some reason that I can't quite explain I envision Chad as Emmitt Fitz-Hume trying to convince the ninjas that if they let him and Austin Milbarge go he'd bring back the sun. If that didn't work he'd offer up his sister. Maybe getting donation is easier than that though.)

The key that I saw was that the donors were seeking him out, not the other way around. That's a critical difference. Mullen was great and could probably raise money for anything but Chad seems uniquely suited to raise money at BYU. He embodies BYU football for many donors.

My brother called up livid the night of the SDSU game. He thought the parking pass he got because of his donation entitled him to park in the lot designated for donors at his level. Well, not if you show up only 20 minutes early to the game. See they let far more people have passes than there are spots available.

I told him to calm down and realize probably a bunch of GA's came to that game and needed the stalls before the paying customers.

They do that with the A lot at the football games. At the basketball games, I have no idea what they do. I am in spot 25.

I have only have one brother who could by a Helicopter if he wanted one and I haven't heard he does. The one I mentioned couldn't, but he does know how to beat the system to get the best deal.

For instance our tickets to the MWC tournament. He can get in line for Legacy II, his son through his company can get in line for Legacy V, yet my brother found a way to even get better tickets. I won't share the info. though in case we have to get some more.

Chad was in my office pitching something to our Marketing staff about 4 years ago. They came away impressed but didn't wind up doing business with him. Maybe it was the spirit they felt and couldn't identify it...
