  • More ammo for Coach Bronco when he talks to recruits' Mormon mothers

    From ESPN Rumors:

Potential DT starter passes on mission

Like Notre Dame last season with LB Manti Te'o, Oregon dodged a bullet on Saturday when true freshman DT Ricky Heimuli announced that he would put off his Mormon mission and remain in school.

Heimuli, a four-star recruit in the class of 2010 (No. 133 in the ESPNU 150), was the fifth player in a five-man DT rotation this season. But he is expected to challenge for a starting position with seniors Brandon Bair and Zac Clark graduating.

The Ducks are not short on DTs -- Rob Moseley of the Eugene Register-Guard says that four other players could challenge for the starting spots: redshirt freshmen Wade Keliikipi and Taylor Hart, and juco transfers Isaac Remington (who redshirted this season) and Jared Ebert -- so it's possible that Heimuli received some assurances about playing time. Keliikipi and Hart both had 18 tackles this season to Heimuli's nine, so one would think that they have the inside track on replacing Bair and Clark.
    Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Make up your minds. Geez, missions are either a big advantage or a non-mission is dodging a bullet. It can't be both. ESPN hates BYU.

Ricky Heimuli is just following the example of Jake Heaps.

You clearly are not Mormon and don't understand how things work. BYU players are serving a mission by playing at BYU. They can do a lot more good and convert more people by playing BYU football.

That's different. It's very clear that Ricky Heimiuli did not follow the example of Jake Heaps.

So he should've said all along that he wasn't going on a mission?

He should've gone to BYU, mission or no mission.

Even worse. True enemies to the dreams of every Mormon mother, at least those that know.

Does anyone doubt that Jake is growing spiritually, and as a man, just as much as BYU's QB as he would as a full-time missionary?

Don't you recognize empathy and support when you see it? You guys just won't accept help. No worries, I am still here for you.

                            He's actually following Bronco's example.

I can't find the post on CB, but about a week ago, there was another discussion on players not going on missions and the poster politely informed everyone that guys may not go on a mission now, but most likely will serve right after college. 'They can serve until they are 27.' I am sure that is the most logical conclusion that the BYU players that don't go on missions while in school are just waiting to graduate so that they can go then.
