  • Anae's personality

I've only heard Anae a few times on the radio, starting from when he first came. Many coaches come across arrogant, fan unfriendly, whatever. Chow did and got worse as his relationship with fans went south. Bronco goes back and forth but is on the prickly side. Anae is as bad as anyone I've heard. He doesn't answer the media's questions. He has zero regard for the fans. Comes across very arrogant. It does not surprise me at all if he has troubled relationships with other coaches or players or key contacts in the recruiting world. I've been a defender of him as far as his offensive strategy and play calls, but I definitely can see that it's possible he's put himself in a bad position wrt his people skills.

FWIW, my mother, a rabid Cougar fan, attends his women's football classes each year and loves him immensely. I have no other input on his personality.

My mom also likes him a great deal. She's been friends with him since HS.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

So what I can surmise is Robert is very personable with married women his age or older. Interesting.

I have nothing to base this on other than a few radio interviews. He might be just a poor communicator over the media.

I've heard that he is very truculant to the media and has a huge ego but like I said my only real experience, and it too is second hand, is through my mother. I'm sure on some level he is misunderstood but I tend to believe that he has a huge ego especially when it comes from multiple sources, many of whom don't seem to have large egos themselves.

I think you hit the nail on the head. My little brother is best friends with his son Famika, and loves Anae to death. He and my family go way back (one of my uncles used him as a model for his statue of the Duke that is on Waikiki beach). I really like the guy, but he can come off a bit wrong in the media, which in the end is the image the masses see. And I can't say anything as to how he acts with players.

                Wait....

Your uncle made the Duke statue at Waikiki?

And anae is the model for that duke statue?

He was the AP on my mission in Oklahoma in the early months of 1980. My association with him and his "personality" was very uplifting. He was funny, personable, and spiritual to a fault. His companion was Elder Oliver, and as they both stood 6'4" plus they were the very example of Stripling Warriors. He was/is a great guy, and a very marginal OC.

If he was your next door neighbor, you'd count yourself lucky.

I still don't get the "marginal OC" comments. His numbers speak for themselves. He may not be the best OC to ever coach college football (I believe we ran that guy out of town) but he is not marginal.

This was in all the articles back when Anae was new and everyone was pro-Anae.

                        Wow, that is pretty cool.

                        We should keep Robert anae.

I wonder if Bronco's penchant for surfing gives him a soft spot for Anae...
