This is the guy that allegedly dumped a bunch of jakes stuff on the floor and told Bronco that Jake is the one that needs to go?

O'Neill is a head case and a behavioral problem. he must have had a serious Saul-to-Paul conversion for a head coach to take him back. It certainly wasn't his on the field production that merited it after such crazy behavior.

That being said, would be nice to have him for the Texas game

      This is from KSL:

On Chambers, Mendenhall said the wide receiver "will not be on scholarship for us, will not be with the team. If he chooses to stay at BYU, train in the morning at 6 o'clock weight class, as a walk-on for an entire year, possibly (he could play) the following year, because he has a redshirt (year). He'd be a regular student, basically."

Asked if he knows what Chambers will do, Mendenhall said "I don't."
He's out a year, not on the team, and must do the regular student routine, then "possibly (he could play) the following year." Maybe Chambers had a Saul-to-Paul moment, but Coach Bronco looks like he wants proof.
      Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

If I'm Chambers, I'm excited about catching passes from Heaps as a Junior. Of course, by the time 2012 rolls around, we may have our receiver corps locked down.

He'll be a senior next year unless - but he actually does have a RS available if I'm not mistaken.

Like many on here I have mixed feelings. I'm really rooting for him on a personal level. I think his behaviorial/depression problems are real and for his sake I'd like to see him make something positive, something winning out of his career at BYU.

From a purely football perspective - he's a physical receiver who isn't fast but who plays pretty fearlessly. That said I definitely don't want him blocking Ross Apo or Jordan Smith or Brett Thompson or even Marcus Matthews on the depth chart.

So I hope he stays and graduates and maybe even practices with the team but I hope he stays out of the WR rotation.

I meant after redshirting and Heaps is a Junior slinging passes around.

Chambers claims he is coming back and Bronco said he will be allowed back but he will have to redshirt no matter what next year.

Bronco is dropping the hammer and Oneill is claiming that he is willing to follow through and get back.
Chambers probably deserves, or least Mendenhall would be justified, to be permanently kicked off the team. However, Mendenhall has a soft spot for the kid and IMO, Mendenhall has a soft spot for just about any rebel. I think Mendenhall was a bit of a wild child in his youth and from what I have seen of the man as BYU's head coach he is very willing to help any kid to change. The only reason that I can see where Mendenhall is unwilling to give a kid a third or fourth or fifth chance is if the kid lies to Bronco.

This one isn't even a case of a kid who is a good player. Honestly, if Chambers makes it back to field in 2012 the go to starters are likely to be Hoffman and Apo. The secondary guys are likely to be Thompson and Smith. I also think Collie III will be a true freshman that year. How much does anyone expect Oneil to play? He will be on KO coverage and punt coverage, perhaps punt return but not as the punt returner.

I hope Oneil makes it back. He will have shown some serious fortitude, sacrifice and desire to belong something bigger than himself. Those are signs of serious character development. Bronco/BYU will have shown that it is willing to be flexible and work with a kid to help give the kid both growth and opportunity. I love stories of redemption and overcoming challenges. I see it as a win-win.

I would love to see OC back in 2012, not because I think he will add much, if anything, to the team, but because I like to see people get second chances and and succeed with them.

It would also help BYU to some degree as it has gained the reputation of being incompatible with many Black athletes and most of us would like to see that reputation disappear over time.
