How many of your team's football games have you missed for church or family?

Last year my wife and I were on a Mediterranean cruise during the HOLY WAR and the only way I could follow the game was on a crappy euro ESPN and the scrolling scores on the bottom line at 3 am. Despite the limitations on following the game it was still nerve racking during overtime.

We were in the Caribbean on a very large ship with all of my extended family (70+) during the '06 Harline game. A GA and his extended family (at least 50 or so) were also there, and together we filled a good portion of the dining room during the game's closing moments. When Utah went ahead late in the game (we had a weak internet link to a gamecast), a pall settled over the Explorer of the Seas.

We were watching the gamecast as well as a CB (I think) chat and were unsure what happened on the final play at first--we couldn't believe BYU would score. But then in chat I saw mpfunk (!) type simply, "Shit", and the people rejoiced. My daughters (all but the Ute princess) spontaneously stood and started singing "Rise and Shout" and the rest of the families joined in. There was much bonhomie in the dining room thereafter.

Zero, I got married in July, kids birthdays are in Jan/Mar/May/Dec and I am always looking for Amy excuse possible to skip church related activities already. Oh, and Junkie, I haven't missed a home game since '86 (I was 6).

Missed a football game due to birth of a child but caught the second half on TV.

Missed a home game a few years ago due to a funeral in another city and the game not being televised.

My most shameful moment was going to a game at LES the day after the birth of a child when later that day he got sent to the NICU and things got real (hey oxcoug) dicey. (Hey I had my phone with me and I as a few minutes away from UVRMC and at the time wife and baby were resting and everything OK)

I think that's about it as far as missing football games.

I usually miss a game or two every year of BB due to various issues, usually a game of one of my kids or something wife needs me for. I wouldn't miss a game for a church calling.

Ooops. I forgot that I also missed a game last year for the birth of my 3rd son.

I always rejoice when that happens too.

Do you exclude your mission service? Oh BOOM-ROASTED! The rest of us would have a two year gap, even the Utes amongst us!

I am grateful to report that starting with UNLV I got my groove back on. Until TCU last year I had been to 10 games at LES and BYU had won every one of them. Then came TCU....then Nevada but now much like Steven Tyler "I'm baaaaack in the saddle again!"

Maybe that is why I opted not to go, so that I would not break my streak.

I've only had season tickets for 5 years. I've missed two games, but not because of church or family.

In '98 when the BYU-Utah game was the Saturday before Thanksgiving, I was dating a girl and she had booked her flight home for the week to leave right during the 3rd quarter. For some unknown reason, she expected me to drive her to the airport, missing the entire game. My car was in the shop at the time and hers was a stick, so I told her felt uncomfortable driving the stick in cold weather and she'd have to find another way up. I don't remember how she got up there, but she did.

I knew then that such a lack of respect -- combined with her refusal to laugh at or watch The Simpsons -- would not work out long term and then broke up with her when she returned.

I've missed a few games also and seem to have been on a cruise ship during the Harline game, following it on the Blackberry. When the score changed, I didn't know what to say so I just raised both arms to signify the TD.

I was following a crappy feed for the Harline game. My connection kept crapping out on me so I had ESPN Gamecast and KSL going. Somehow I lost the KSL feed, the crappy stream of the game I was watching, and ESPN wouldn't update. I was going nuts for about 30 seconds and assumed they had lost. Then my phone started blowing up with texts from friends.
