Hoffman doesn't have the speed that Brown and Sampson have.

Their speed isn't what killed you. They were sitting in soft zones all night. Particularly in the middle of the field during the first half. On many of those plays down the sidelines, coverage was decent, they just made better plays on the ball.

Utah Defense played mentally tough tonight and did not get inside their own heads. The offense seems to have finally crawled out of their heads and is getting itself in gear. I would like to see more devonte against byu and lots of asiata. This was a very good win.

Maybe not the right words. The D never stopped playing; never gave up and threw in the towel. Their play was horrible in the first half and not quite as horrible in the 2nd half. But at no point did it seem the UTES D just dialed their performance in. They need to shore up their pass coverages and learn how to tackle - all in one week.

I think they were in a soft zone because of the speed of Sampson and Brown. Hoffman is a decent receiver but he doesn't compare to those two guys. Hoffman wouldn't see the field if he played for SDSU. Luckily for Utah he is the only receiver they have to gameplan for. SDSU had 3.

With a better homefield crowd sdsu might have beaten us. Their passing game is amazing. Sampson and Brown would likely start for most teams and their tight end is very good.

I might actually tune in Friday to see Ptt v. WVA. If Pitt wins, they are guaranteed a share of the Big East title and will very likely be their BCS rep with one game remaining against a Cincy team that has looked poor. That would be a feather in our cap, even if not the greatest one.

Pitt v WV is always a good game. The nickname "backyard brawl" is one of the coolest in all of CFB.

I would say that missing an extra point in a game affects the outcome of the game roughly 80% of the time.

How different would SDSU's playcalling have been late in the game had they only needed a field goal to tie?

If nothing else, this team won't ever quit. The defense really stepped up in the second half.

I like our chances next week. BYU's confident, but I think it is a bit of false self confidence. The Utes have been brought back down to earth.

I think this one comes down to the battle of the trenches.

Utah's Run D has been stout this season, while BYU's running game has been solid.

That is where the game will be ultimately won.

BYU's kick return coverage has been shaky the past few weeks and I wouldn't be surprised to see Shaky or Dunn peel of a big return for a TD.

Wynn played better last night, but in my opinion he doesn't have that kind of night if Utah doesn't go back to re-establishing the rushing attack with Wide and espeically the tough runs Asiata made last night. If it weren't for that (and SDSU's QB making some incredibly arrogant throws thinking he fit anything into double and triple coverage)...I think Utah loses last night convincingly. Smart move by OC Roderick to getting back to the basics. It was that play-calling which opened up for more options for Wynn in the passing game.

Luck had something to do with Utah winning the game, with the missed PAT and the extremely rare hail mary,,,but then again SDSU had that ridiculous lucky 90 yard TD bounce into Vincent Brown's hands...so it can go both ways.

While I'm a Y fan and would love to see them win this game, I think Utah wins a closer game that most would expect. However, if BYU has another 200 Yard plus rushing day book it right now...they will win the game. Especially if they control the clock and Keep Utah's offense off the field.

It will come down to a good old fashioned game of who wins the trenches and controls the clock and field position.

Fanbases can crow that either team's wins have come on the heels of false bravado and beating up on crap teams. Both fanbases would be right.

Both teams have had their weaknesses exposed. Now let's see who does a better job of taking advantage of that.

Turnovers: BYU has done a much better job of holding onto the football the past several games. That might be an indicator of the low level of competition they've played. Jake did have one throw last night that should've been a pick six had the UNM defender held onto the ball. That kind of throw is something he won't get away with against Utah.

Since Bronco took over BYU has done a much better job of disguising coverages and blitz packages. It's shocking the night and day difference regarding teh attitude adn intensity the D plays with now that Jaime Hill (one of the worst DC's at the college level I can ever remember watching) is gone.

Should be an interesting game to watch.

I don't see BYU going for 200 yards on the ground vs. the Utes. The Utes D line is night and day better than the pathetic D-Lines that BYU has been playing against the past couple of weeks.

Last year when BYU's running game was much better than it is now they only rushed for 131 yards against the Utes.
