  • So how much will it cost for the Utes to get a Cam Newton

Caliber player to come in and save our asses next year? I'm sure it will be money well spent, because Wynn is not the answer.

If Wynn is the starter next year, I will feel the same way I felt when Lance Rice was named the starter in 2002.

At this point, I may prefer Lance Rice. Sure Rice sucked, but it was because he lacked skills to play QB. Wynn doesn't lack the skills to play the position he just lacks any heart and any competitive fire. He loves to compile some stats, but I don't think he gives a damn about winning.

They have a Cam Newton caliber player. They have Terrance Cain. Who preceded Cam Newton as Blinn QB and Juco player of the year. In fact, Cain is why Newton went to Blinn.

They had a good player and threw him in the trash bin, because his style of leadership was understated and unflashy.

I'm not sure why Cain was the scapegoat for everything. Going back on it, the decision to bench Cain in 2009 was a terrible coaching decision. When Cain has played this year, he has outperformed Wynn. He is just a better QB, a better leader, and unlike Wynn he has some heart.

Good Lord. Cain is no Cam Newton. Cam Newton is 6-6 250 lb. In HS he was one of the top quarterbacks in the country and signed with Florida at the peak of Meyer's success. Griff Robles is more Cam Newton than Cain.

Cain is black and he went to Blinn so he's Cam Newton? Come on.

He isn't Cam Newton, but he is the best thing that we got right now.

Have you ever coached? Have you ever coached a DI team to an undefeated season? Would you do open heart surgery on someone without a medical degree or license.

I'm certain you don't have the slightest idea what you're talking about. I agree with (the Tribune's) Mike Waters. There's something about the state of Utah that makes people be absolutely sure of things absent any expertise or rational basis.

I said this when he did it--benching your quarterback and burning a redshirt just to beat Wyoming (when you probably would have won anyway--it's Wyoming...) seemed like a really bad, knee-jerk, panic decision. But I don't follow Utah very closely and Wynn seemed to look good this year, so I thought maybe Whit knew what he was doing. Looks like maybe not.

Funny how assessments change. 2 months ago, Whit was a genius at managing QB's and Bronco was the idiot.
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

I have never coached a FBS team to a single victory. I want Whittingham to remain our coach and believe in his abilities. However, even good coaches are capable of mistakes. Wynn is a terrible QB, end of story. You may enjoy watching him refuse to sell out for a 1st down to keep the chains moving, I don't.

I'm just ribbing you. I think this does open things up at qb, especially for next year if Wynn doesn't pull it together. They have a good dual threat (black) qb who signed who has Cam Newton size.

I disagree Wynn not a competitor. I think he's more like Max Hall. A guy who isn't super gifted or endowed with classic star qb size, etc., but has gotten where he is with a lot of heart. Like Hall, he has some bad games.

I'm not a Max Hall fan in the slightest, but the next time Hall doesn't sell out to get a 1st down will be the first.

Newton, 21, called attending Blinn a "turning point" and used his time at the school "to put everything together." One of the main reasons Newton picked Blinn was the play of Terrance Cain, who was the NJCAA Offensive Player of the Year in 2008 and transferred to Utah.

Because you're calling for Griff Robles.

I have no idea who should start (and don't really care), but on the surface and from a distance, it seems stupid to burn a redshirt year to beat Wyoming, when it arguably didn't get you any extra wins.

EDIT: By the way, you can check the archives--I said this right after your Wyoming game last year. Seemed stupid then, seems stupid now.
