Of course, if you're going to go to last season, maybe putting Boise State ahead of Oregon also makes sense.
I don't see that happening. TCU has the advantage, despite the past season. I just hope that they give one of the two programs a legitimate shot at the NC. That would be huge. Of course, I hope that is BSU but I would be happy to see the underdog get his chance.

That means some voters have Boise ranked down quite a way in the polls.

With apologies to HFNW, I think I would give TCU my #1 ranking at this point. Oregon and Auburn have had some pretty poor defensive performances this season. I think TCU is the most complete team on both sides of the football.
Oregon's offense may be the best college offense I've ever seen. Maybe that's overstating things a bit, but they're beating up on teams like Florida used to beat up on Louisiana-Monroe during Spurrier's peak at Florida back in the mid to late 90s. The difference is Oregon is doing it against Pac 10 teams. I think they've got to be #1 right now.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

I agree with this. I am blown away at how Oregon can put on the board right now and it isn't against awful competition. It is so much fun to watch.

Oregon is awesome and I have been trying to catch as many of their games as I can.

They have given up over 30 points in three games and gave up 23 to Washington State. A lot of that could be blamed on the fact that their possessions are so short and they press so much on offense that there are just a lot more possessions for the opposition to have chances to score.

Still, I would be a little bit nervous about the defense if I were an Oregon fan. An Auburn/Oregon national championship game might end up with both teams scoring 50+ points.

I think there are 4 teams that all deserve to be in the #1 discussion right now, Oregon, Auburn, BSU and TCU. Of those 4 IMO TCU yesterday and Oregon vs. Stanford have the 2 most impressive wins.

I think a team built like Oregon around a high powered offense is always going to give up points. Part of the deal with the offense only being on the field for 2-3 minutes at a time. However Oregon has an All-American DB, and a solid front 7. They aren't as good as TCU defensively, but they are pretty good. Yes they gave up 30 to Stanford and USC, they also have 2 shutouts and have allowed scores of 13, 13 and 16 in other games. They are averaging 17 pts per game allowed, BSU is at 13, TCU 8 and Auburn from the defense heavy SEC is 24.

I don't see how you couldn't put Oregon as the number one team. It is the most explosive offense I have ever seen in my 18 years as a college football fan. I would love to see a TCU - Oregon match-up. But I would still put my money on Oregon.

I actually think, based on the 2 loss teams behind Utah, that Utah is still ranked a bit too high.

That's why I'd thought they'd be in the 18-23 range.

SDSU right on the brink. Good for them.

That matchup worked because it was an off-year for Navy (which was there in 2007), and the Pac-10 didn't have enough bowl-eligible teams.

No kidding. I'll pass for this year. I want no part of Oregon, TCU, Boise this year. Probably none of the rest of the top 10, but those especially.

I think 15 is right. If you take the emotion away as a fan (of either Utah or BYU) evaluating Utah, it is still an 8-1 football team with one loss (albeit a blowout) to the #3 team in the nation.

It's great to be TCU right now. They beat a Utah team that, should it win out, would likely be back in the top 10 when the final BCS standings come out. They get a respectable SDSU team next week, and, they've created enough distance that there is no way Boise can pass them, IMO.

Boise is in the same spot as TCU... a team full of returning (senior) starters.

Not sure I like the Utes chances against Boise right now.

Happy with the #15 ranking though.
