Why do I see another FM story in the making. "Oh all that shit I said about Utah, turns out none of it was real all baseless stereotypes. Sorry guys!"

      mind your fora, hermano.

but to answer your question, I dont know why you would see that. This thread is not complimentary towards Utah sports radio.

I didn't think the "prank" passed the smell test when I first heard it, so I filed it away as bogus. Now Chambers has admitted it and tried to pass it off as a prank. Now, I can't imagine any scenario where a player would do something like that as a prank.

Conclusion? I should not try to get inside the head of Chambers. Weird dude. So long.

          Weird?

You probably think people like Phil Hendrie, Ricky Gervais, and Trey Parker are weird. It's called creative genius.

I agree that sports radio is dull here, but it's tough to generate interest in the NFL, NHL and MLB without a franchise here, though in the case of lack of MLB interest it's because there are too many people who don't understand the sport and therefore, ignorance distorts their POV.

I rarely listen to sports radio, but when I do, I tune in to hear about the Utes because it's really the only team I care about; however, I do listen to Bees games and would love it if there was even more Triple A talk.

I think this is it in large part.

There is clearly a hunger and enthusiasm here for all sports, simply looking at the cross section of CUF, CB, UFN, et al. Utahns enjoy pro sports. Most everyone has adopted a team, even though they live in Utah.

I attribute part of the problem to program directors that think provincially and have adopted the BigFatMeanie approach to scheduling.....let's talk 95% of the time about LOCAL teams. It is the wrong ratio and it is pretty evident after only a few shows.

I dont care if PK or that other guy have lame personas. As many have already noted, most sports radio guys are geeks. They can be unfunny, but at least talk about all sports with greater representation, not just LOCAL stuff.

That is my observation and Im sticking to it!

Is there such a thing as good local sports radio? If you are good in a local you get moved to national.

However I am probably not the best guy to determine what pure sports radio is good as I think the best sports radio shows on now are Steve Czaban Show and Petros & Money. Neither of which are afraid to leave sports and talk pop culture or other entertaining things.

I think P&M are a good example. Their Fake Hour, the first hour, is all local stuff. The rest is national interest and the subject matter varies. But when it comes to sports, they will have Coach Tressel call in and interview him, for example. Paul Pierce has called in.

Do you remember when you and I were at the game...Petros addressed this very thing....he basically told us, "F the local markets, Im going to talk about what I want to talk about." And he does.

One would think that the program directors would get it, in that as you pointed out in the bolded text that there is a rather substantial interest in pro sports, particularly the NFL here in SLC. Dedicating an hour or so to nothing but NFL talk (or NBA, MLB, etc.) for each show would be good for the stations because there are so many NFL fans here, though I don't consider myself one of those fans and wouldn't tune in.

OTH hand, I think for a significant number of the NFL fans, the only reason they have an interest is because of players who played either at Utah or BYU and not because of the league itself. We Utahns are odd ducks in that way, thinking that a kid who played at a local school is somehow representative of the populace at that level.

Utah sports radio is what it is - very provincial and not very interesting, but it obviously works in this market, otherwise it wouldn't be on the air.

As for me, I'll stick to satellite radio to listen to 80s new wave and post punk.

You have to remember, dad, dad, daddy O, that Utah based sports gets very little play outside of the local markets. Most folks can get their out of state fix, such as I for the Halos, by tuning in to almost any show outside of Utah. But for BYU crappola, I am not going to get a sniffer on an program. Couple that with the stations run multiple national shows throughout the day (Rome, Cowherd, DP, JT The Brick, all the nightly stuff) and I think 99% of the populous is getting as much national news as they want.
