I don't know anything about BYU talent levels or defensive philosophy. I recall that when Chris Hill fired Jim Fassel he said it was because Fassel diverted all the most talented players to offense, when in fact defense generally requires the most athleticism. Defenders have to react to a planned offense, which requires more of everything - quickness, reflexes, speed, hops, etc. I am not a football "mind" at all but I've always found that interesting, and it seems to be borne out by Whittingham's decisions. Paul Kruger was a high school QB, for example. Anyway, I really do hope independence works out for BYU.

Increased exposure (on the major networks) will increased recruiting, IMHO. I don't want my son to play for a school that can only put their games on the mtn channel which is only available on stinking Directv for folks outside of the college's geography. Personally I was against my son playing for the likes of a BYU and Utah before they got out of the MWC because of the lack of exposure these programs got compared to other programs that Jr is getting interest letters from.

If BYU's football games are going to be on ESPN and replayed on BYUTV (which has far more coverage than the mtn) every night then independence seems like a good move, IMO, for their recruiting. BYU getting into the Big 12 would be like having the best of both worlds: being in a BCS AQ conference and being able to broadcast games on BYUTV. The exposure would be huge with that combination.

With 3 games left on the schedule I would suspect that perhaps one interesting and 2 uninteresting ones get added.

Right now after 2011, we don't have a schedule that should produce happiness with many 8-4 seasons.
2011 and 2012 are going to be crap, we know it and Holmoe knows it. 2013 and beyond will tell the scheduling story for BYU as an independent.

Agree. Finances will generally follow competitiveness in the long run.

I watched most of it. I didn't watch the full 4th quarter. What did he do?

It was early in the game. Bart Johnson went on a crossing route over the middle, and Rich was there to help break up the pass. Kelly Stouffer, in describing the replay, got tongue twisted and said Andrew Bitch. He quickly corrected himself, and no mention was made of it. But CJF and me aren't the only ones who caught it.

                    I missed that one.

He was best in HS playing safety. Obviously his build is such that he is best suited for LB. Where does he play at BYU? Second string fullback. Guys who could do either, like Fabuluje and Rowley, are historically steered toward the offensive side of the ball. It doesn't make sense and it isn't smart.
You lost me the second you said Mike Hague should be playing linebacker.

It is what the announcer called Andrew.

yeah I heard that. I don't think much of it TBH. I just thought it was a funny slip of the tongue. I had forgotten about it and was thinking that CJF was saying rich played like a bitch.

I am in his head. He wants every fullback at ILB, I want the ones who can catch and run the ball at FB. Nobody will take the fighting flemm from me, nobody!

I will say that it's time to convert a few of our skill players at certain positions to defense.

As innovative as Anae is, I just don't see us lining up with five tight ends anytime soon.

I'm big on putting anyone between 220 and 240 that can run at linebacker. I'll pass on Hague. You can keep him on offense.
