... are the worst. The other day we were driving south for the weekend and stopped at the Chevron in Scipio. The Utah State golf team happened to be there at the same time and one of them was wearing this shirt:

he had a smug look on his face and a couple of people came up to him and gave him a high-five. Now that's about as classless a t-shirt as has ever been manufactured in any rivalry, and I can understand that there is a market for this kind of stuff among the most pathetic losers of every school's fanbase. But why would the golf coaches (they were all there) let a team member wear that on a team trip? Amazing.

I saw that at the game, worn by a similarly smug Aggie fan. I had a question or 2 in response which the smug guy did not care to answer: "Who's watching the meth lab while you're here at the game?" and, "Are you thankful your dad didn't get kicked out of middle school when he knocked up your mom?"

    yeah, I was indignant.

By the way, I find it hilarious that there is both a crimson and a navy blue collection to this website:

are there any other schools that engender this kind of shared obsession among the fan bases of two different schools?

Aggies love two things; Ice Cream and T-shirts. I've always suspected that the Cache County t-shirt industry quietly stokes the fires of the rivalry just to keep in business. Every year they have some new cute batch of BYU hating t-shirts and the students buy them! I remember seeing the "I was there!" t-shirts after the Aggies beat BYU back in 1993.

Growing up as a Mormon in Denver and watching BYU football on tv... it always made me proud of their success.

I didn't start disliking some BYU fans until I moved to Utah. After that, I saw the fan base in a whole new light.

Maybe that's why I think this one is funny.

That website is hilarious. Here are some jokes from the jokes page on the site:

A BYU fan behind me while I am standing the entire game, taps me on the shoulder and says you're blocking my vision....
            I told him....sorry I didn't know you were having a vision
Q: Why do they leave a sack of manure on byu's sideline?
A: To keep the flies off the cheerleaders.
What's the difference between a chicken and a BYU coed?
The chicken says "Cockadoodle Doo" and the coed says "Any dude'll do."
Q: What's the hardest thing about being a byu cougar fan?
A: Telling your parents that you're gay.
Q: What does the Unabomber, Ted Kyzinski, and a BYU Co-Ed have in common?
A: They both got fingered by their brother.

You'd probably also love this website that I saw linked on the Screw the Y website:

              http://www.byusucks.net/

There are a ton more hilarious t-shirts!

                This one is pretty good.

Q: What did the BYU coed do when her boyfriend put on a rated R movie?
A: She put her bra and shirt back on and left in disgust.

I know of the guy who created that website. He's an Aggie grad and fan that also cheers for Utah.

I won one of those shirts in a raffle contest. I think I left it there.

Definitely low class. Why do people, many who are indeed active members of the church have such disdain for BYU.

As a relative once told me, it is the perception "they" think they are an elite part of the church. They follow a higher law and are "smarter" than the rest of us. The churches "best and brightest" go to BYU.

I have friends who are Aggies and Utes who really dislike BYU. When I ask them to define the dislike, it always boils down to the perception "they" think they are better than everyone else. I think it would be easier to take if BYU was just seen as a different culture rather than a more "moral" place.

Let's face it. The honor code is held up to be a moral code. No it isn't. It is a culture code. Beards, long hair, tatoo's, being in the opposite sex's room after midnight is not a moral code, it is a culture code. Sure the code has some moral codes in it, but that does not make it a moral code in it's entirety.

People who ascribe to the code are not necessarily better people.

Many BYU fans think it is their team's success that creates the animosity they have with all the other teams they play on a regular basis...

I suspect it is something else.

I wonder how long it will take before fans of teams from the WCC are calling BYU fans the same names they are now called by MWC fans.

Maybe I'm wrong but I don't see the same vitriol for the Utes on the farewell tour. Hell... Air Force played "Hit the road Jack" on the stadium loudspeaker after their victory.
